DTU Compute’s Section for Cyber Security invites applications for an appointment as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor within cryptology. The position is available from 1 April 2020 or according to mutual agreement.

The department DTU Compute is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics and computer science. At the same time, we are an engineering department covering informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense. Finally, we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavor.

DTU Compute strives to achieve research excellence in its basic science disciplines, to achieve technological leadership in research and innovation, and to address societal challenges in collaboration with partners at DTU and other academic institutions, nationally and internationally, and, equally important, with industry and organizations. We communicate and collaborate with leading centers and strategic partners in order to increase participation in major consortia.

DTU Compute plays a central role in education at all levels of the engineering programs at DTU - both in terms of our scientific disciplines and our didactic innovation.

Responsibilities and tasks
Through the position, the university seeks to strengthen the research within cyber security and cryptology in particular. 

Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to: 

  • Symmetric-key cryptology, design  and cryptanalysis
  • Post-quantum cryptology
  • Lightweight and resource-efficient cryptology
  • Cryptology for secure computation
  • Side-channel cryptanalysis and secure implementations
  • Machine-learning in cryptanalysis
  • Provable security

Candidates with strong expertise in other areas of cryptology are also encouraged to apply.

The candidate should have a strong academic track record in their domain of expertise, and interest and/or experience in project proposal writing. Good skills in pedagogical work and dissemination of mathematical sciences is highly desirable.

We are looking for a motivated candidate who will work together with the other members of our group towards the innovation and strengthening of the group research output and activities and help in improving the currently offered courses in cryptology and cyber security. The department offers various MSc- and PhD-level courses and projects. Teaching and development of the courses have a high priority at DTU Compute. The department is well-known for its modern, engaged and pedagogical teaching and prioritizes that all employees participate actively in the course development. To support this, all new employees are offered university pedagogical trainings.

Qualifications
Candidates for an

  • assistant professorship must hold a PhD degree in mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering or a similar degree
  • associate professorship must, in addition to the requirements for obtaining an assistant professorship, have documented didactic/pedagogic training and experience

We are looking for a candidate, who is self-motivated and able to define a personal research agenda, but at the same time shows interest in collaboration and willingness to contribute to the team. In addition to excellence in research, we are looking for a candidate who enjoys teaching and is able to inspire students at all academic levels, including outreach activities to pre-university students and continuing education efforts. Finally, we are looking for a candidate who is able to contribute to the innovation agenda through participation in the public debate, entrepreneurship and/or collaboration with industry.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The assistant professor position is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU
