Responsibilities and tasks
The department is looking for a flexible and enthusiastic candidate, who will take part in developing an Arctic geotechnical and geophysical research platform within the framework of Arctic DTU, Center for Arctic Technology, taking advantage of the DTU campus in Sisimiut, Greenland. In particular, it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to contribute to one or more of the following fields:

  • Continue the development of geoelectrical methods for application in Arctic site investigations focusing on infrastructure development and maintenance.
  • Develop experimental methodology and facilities for geotechnical/geophysical classification of permafrost soils at both the Lyngby and Sisimiut campuses Development of multi-disciplinary hazard and risk evaluation frameworks focusing on Arctic infrastructure in a changing climate.
  • Hydro-thermo-mechanical modelling of permafrost areas in an infrastructure context.

With this position, we open for new and interesting research fields, which are to be defined in collaboration with the successful candidate. We therefore ask the applicants to submit a proposed research plan describing how the applicant expects to contribute within the outlined research fields.

Dissemination of research results is expected through scientific publications, interdisciplinary collaborative projects at national and international level, and the candidate is expected to undertake public sector consultancy in Greenland whilst engaging in the continuous dissemination of these activities. The successful candidate is expected to engage heavily in fundraising activities targeted towards this field of research.

Educational responsibilities include among other things classroom teaching/lecturing, supervision of individual (or group) projects, and supervision of M.Sc. students, PhD students, and postdocs. The position will include travel activities and 1-2 months/year of the teaching will take place in Sisimiut, Greenland at Bachelor and Master level courses. The educational responsibilities will, to the extent possible, be related to the research focus area, however flexibility is required and it is expected that the candidate will be able to cover and contribute to a wide spectrum of topics within basic geotechnics and geophysics on both bachelor and master level.

Please note that the expected teaching at undergraduate level is primarily to be in Danish, while at postgraduate level (M.Sc. or PhD) it is required to be in English. For international candidates, DTU offers Danish language courses, with the purpose of being able to teach in Danish within the first two-three years.”

Administrative duties include academic assessment work on all levels.

Other content of the position:

  • Associate Professors - Responsibilities related to PhD and Postdoc supervision, research project management, and academic departmental work.
  • Assistant Professors - will have to complete DTU’s education in university teaching (UDTU) and is expected to co-supervise PhD students.

The candidate is expected to operate within an interdisciplinary research team as well as actively collaborate with other research groups at DTU and foreign universities.

Qualifications
Candidates for an

  • Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship
  • Associate professorship must document didactic/pedagogic training

All applicants must have a strong knowledge of applied geophysics in an infrastructure context and experience with field activities in permafrost areas.
