Associate Professor in Tools and Microdevices for Oral Drug Delivery

The ’Drug Delivery and Sensor’ section at DTU Health Tech wishes to employ an associate professor within the framework of the highly interdisciplinary Center of Excellence - IDUN. You will play a leading role in the drug delivery and sensing activities in the section, interacting with several section members working in different disciplines, such as optics, biochemistry, biology, microfluidics, pharmacology and polymer science. The job involves supervision of Ph.D. and master students.

The field of research is within small devices for biomedical applications and associated tools/sensors for device fabrication and characterization. The section makes use of a toolbox consisting of among others, microdevices, various drug formulation technologies, micro&nano fabrication, electrospinning, 3D printing, drug delivery strategies and in vitro and in vivo models. Currently we are addressing challenges such as oral delivery of insulin and vaccines.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be responsible for expanding our activities within developing and using microfabricated devices - exploring new applications, new characterization/fabrication tools and new collaborations. One possibility is to broaden our focus - to not only focus on oral drug delivery, but also explore e.g.
‘local sampling’. It is expected that you will apply for own research funding, co-develop our teaching portfolio, contribute to our outreach activities, supervise and engage PhD students. It is important that you have good communication skills both in writing and verbally.

We seek a person who is in line with our IDUN values ( www.idun.dtu.dk ) and who is highly self-motivated and with a great flair for guiding students. Preferably, you have a PhD degree in mechanical, chemical or tissue engineering and a proven track record in supervision and planning/execution of courses. You should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training. You can see the greater picture of the section/department and align with the goals of the section. You enjoy the interaction with team members, collaborators and students. You are a good communicator, and create a positive working environment. Furthermore, you must:

  • Have a strong national and international network
  • Have demonstrated ability to attract funding
  • Be able to work within a team- and collaboration-oriented research environment
  • Be motivated by both individual and team accomplishments  

Specifically we are looking for a candidate that can offer insides in areas such as:

  • Has extensive experience in technologies related to drug delivery
  • Has intensive track record within microdevices for oral delivery
  • Has the capability of choosing the appropriate tools and devices for a given application
  • Has an innovative spirit and is driven by finding new solutions for existing problems
  • Has a track record in teaching and supervision and enjoys inspiring next generation scientists
  • Is good at seeking collaborations across disciplines and sections
  • Has the capability of being a part of a bigger cooperating team both scientifically and socially

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicants qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
