The Section for Biotherapeutic Engineering and Drug Targeting employs more than 40 scientists at all levels and is part of the Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech). Our projects have a clear translational path and entail elements of synthetic chemistry, formulation development, physicochemical characterization, in vitro testing, and efficacy testing in animal models. Several spinout-companies have already been initiated based on technology developed in our section. We focus on development of novel materials, cell therapies, vaccines, radiopharmaceuticals, and pharmaceutical actives for treatments in the space of cancer, infectious and chronic deceases.

The multi-disciplinary research conducted by the Section for Biotherapeutic Engineering and Drug Targeting is done in collaboration with several international networks, Danish hospitals, and with industry.

If you are interested in advancing a career at the interface of chemistry, cancer immunotherapy, and soft nanomaterials, this could be the opportunity you are looking for. DTU Health Tech invites applications for an associate professor within polymer chemistry, to advance new materials for use in molecular biology and immunology.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Candidates must be able to demonstrate a solid scientific knowledge and research experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Design of novel strategies used in the field of drug delivery vehicles, vaccines, and biomimetic hydrogels. The candidate should ideally cover aspect from chemical synthesis to in vitro and in vivo testing.
  • Design, synthesis, and use of polymers as tools for solubilizing membrane proteins, e.g. for use in cryo electron microscopy. The candidate’s expertise should ideally span computational aided design, synthetic methodology in controlled radical polymerizations, and in vitro testing.

We expect the successful candidate to participate in both fundamental and advanced-level education of students, in cooperation with the other scientific staff, and to contribute actively to the theoretical and experimental research within the Department.

The position will involve teaching in existing relevant courses and developing new course material on topics around drug delivery and supramolecular polymer chemistry. Teaching can be in collaboration with relevant DTU departments.

DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research experience
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
