DTU Sustain is looking for a full-time faculty member to join our team in water systems research. Water systems are focal points of climate change impact because floods and droughts will become more frequent and more severe in the future. Society must adapt to these changes while also safeguarding biodiversity and increasing resilience through use of nature-based solutions.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate will develop new scientific insights and engineering solutions to support adaptation and will support the development of our water systems teaching portfolio. Research and development could address some of the following challenges:

  • Observing hydrologic and/or contaminant processes and phenomena over a range of temporal and spatial scales and across the urban-catchment interface, using innovative data types from satellite earth observation, airborne and in-situ active and passive sensing platforms.
  • Predicting and simulating the impacts of extreme events as well as the effect of adaptation measures over a range of temporal and spatial scales and across all compartments of the natural and technical water cycle.
  • Designing optimal infrastructure investments, governance models and economic incentives to support adaptation to climate change, increased flood and drought risk, and sea level rise.

Candidates should have a background in quantitative hydrology / earth sciences / environmental engineering. Candidates must have an established track record demonstrating high-level research output. Teaching experience is an asset.

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the associate professor position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research experience
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Starting date is February 1st  (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
