Applications are invited for a permanent position at associate or full professor level in the field of chemical engineering at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering (BCE), Aarhus University, Denmark. The main workplace will be Campus Viborg (Foulum site), but with strong ties and frequent interaction with our campus in Aarhus.
The BCE Foulum site contains the largest PtX research centre in Europe, which will be your workplace. The centre is integrated with our full-scale research biogas plant, with access to industry scale power, H2 and CO2 and sufficient space and infrastructure for any PtX research on TRL 2-6.

You will be a key person in developing our research activities in chemical process engineering, with a strong focus on catalysis. You will primarily work with research and development, management of test and operation of chemical engineering technologies at TRL 2-6, including design, development, construction, test and operation of carbon capture (CC) and PtX (U) technologies, based on new and existing observed basic principles. Your work areas can include, but is not restricted to

  • Chemical process engineering and design

  • Synthesis of fuels (e.g. CH4, methanol, hydrocarbons) based on CO2 and power.

  • Catalysis engineering and design

  • Carbon capture and utilization

  • Methane pyrolysis

  • Pilot design and operation

Your profile
You should qualify academically on associate or full professor level with an outstanding track record of academic and/or industrial research and development achievements. You also have an excellent track record of teaching or a strong interest in knowledge dissemination to students on all levels. You have an educational background in chemical engineering or chemistry and preferably experience from industry or applied research on higher TRL levels. You have an outgoing nature and the ability to establish strong academic and industrial contacts and partnerships, leading to the establishment of large mission-oriented projects both on a national and international scale.

Who we are
The Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering BCE is a young department in the recently established Faculty of Technical Sciences at Aarhus University. The Department has about 800 students and offers educational programs on diploma and master level as well as PhD programs. Education on bachelor and master programs is research based. BCE conducts research in biotechnology and chemical engineering on all levels from basic research to research on pilot scale technologies on TRL 5-6. The Department has strong ties and collaboration with our neighbouring science departments in Chemistry, Physics, Biology etc. https://bce.au.dk/en/

The position is offered in collaboration with Haldor Topsoe A/S and includes extensive collaborative projects in the above areas and related permanent partly/full funding of PhD projects. The position however offers full academic freedom and is unconditioned by any industrial interest.

Place of work and area of employment
The position includes two permanent workplace addresses in Campus Aarhus and Campus Viborg. The attendance at each workplace address is by agreement with your immediate supervisor. At the time of employment, the distribution between the workplace addresses is expected to be 2 days with place of employment at Campus Aarhus and 3 days with place of employment at Campus Viborg. The area of employment is Aarhus University with affiliated institutions.

This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
