Join us in shaping the next generation of engineers as Assistant/Associate professor in ICT or Software Development

DTU Engineering Technology invites applications for a position as Assistant/Associate Professor in Information Communication Technology or Software Development in the newly started research group Software development. Here you will contribute in defining and establishing the research group by defining research projects and research objectives – and you will contribute in the transformation of research into teaching in one or more of the following areas:

  • Programming
  • Software development
  • Software for medicinal equipment and infrastructure
  • Mobile application development

DTU Engineering Technology is located at DTU Ballerup Campus and is part of the Technical University of Denmark. We provide courses and instruction that contribute to a number of DTU’s Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Programmes as well as a range of continuing education formats, including Diploma Programmes. Our approach is research and development-based with a strong focus on professional practice, hands-on experience, problem solving and business readiness, qualifying our graduates to identify, analyse and find solutions to real-world challenges and technical problems across engineering disciplines and in practice-based, complex and development-oriented job functions.

DTU Engineering Technology has an extensive portfolio of industry-university collaborations at both student and faculty level. This forms the basis of our growing research field, technology implementation in engineering and engineering education, which focuses on synthesizing learnings from multiple single cases into the development of new methodology, theory and tools for technology implementation, primarily within the sectors of construction, production and supply infrastructure.   

The pedagogical concept of the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Programmes is based upon the internationally recognized concept CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate). This is a concept DTU has developed in global cooperation with other universities, ensuring that graduates have a high degree of professionalism and strong personal and interpersonal skills taught in an engineering context.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The position as assistant/associate professor at DTU Engineering Technology includes a combination of teaching, supervision and research. Your teaching activities vary in format to inspire and challenge the students according to their qualifications, learning styles and the nature of the subject. Your teaching contributes to the life shaping student experiences that prepare the students for their careers and lives. Your teaching activities can include courses within:

  • Information technology 1 (62420)
  • Information technology 2 (62450)
  • IT and Communication (62581)
  • Object-oriented programming (62514)
  • Advanced mobile application development (62416)

You must also be willing to expand your teaching competencies in relation to DTU's future needs.

Apart from teaching, you will also engage in a number of industrial research projects. This includes joining existing projects at the department and in your research group as well as by taking the lead in applying for and finding external funding for future projects in close collaboration with your software research group. Such projects will originate in university-industry collaboration together with and for the benefit of the industry and society. The central themes for the research group are software development, including software for healthcare technology and infrastructure, along with collaborative relationships with companies, industry associations and public institutions.

We are looking for applicants who have a broad experience in software development and computer science with a collaborative mind-set for both external collaboration in terms of university-industry collaboration, and university-university collaboration as well as internal collaboration within research and teaching in the research group and across the department. The research group is still in the process of establishing itself as part of a major transformation of the department. You will have the opportunity of contributing to the transformation of the department and the definition of the research group, while balancing development and operational tasks.

Qualified applicants will have a relevant MSc degree e.g. software engineer or a higher education in computer science or similar as well as:

  • PhD degree or similar is an advantage
  • Full stack development experience
  • Devops, Continuous Development, Continuous Integration experience
  • Cloud computing experience
  • Object oriented programming experience
  • Mobile Application Development experience
  • Agile development methods experience
  • Relevant work experience at a high professional level (min 3 years)
  • Utilizing your professional business network in your teaching and continuously develops a Danish as well as international professional network
  • Teaching experience at university level is an advantage but not a requirement
  • Proficient English skills

The teaching language in our department is Danish. You must therefore be able to teach in Danish after three years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.

Salary and terms of employment
Salary, employment terms and conditions are according to the collective agreement for government employed academic staff and the career structure for Bachelor of Engineering educations and the Export Engineer education.

The place of work is DTU Ballerup Campus. The position is full time with a starting date as soon as possible.

The recruitment process
After the application deadline, the Head of Department selects applicants for assessment based on the advice of an internal DTU Appointment Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been accepted for assessment. Applicants will be continuously informed about the progress of the procedure by email.

First round of interviews is expected to be held in week 20 and 21.

Second round of interviews is expected to be held in week 23 to 25.

The final candidates are selected and offered the position in week 27, with job start 1 September 2021.
