Assistant Professors (tenure track) / Associate Professors in Civil and Architectural Engineering

The Department of Engineering (ENG) of Aarhus University (AU) is looking for several innovative and visionary tenure track Assistant Professors or Associate Professors to push the frontiers of Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE) research. This international top-100 University has made an ambitious strategic investment in a 5-year recruitment plan to place the University in direct competition with the global engineering elite. Therefore, the University is seeking researchers driven with vision, innovations, or technologies for the future, to join and expand an existing group of world-class researchers in this ambitious engineering build-up.

Positions are available within all relevant disciplines of civil engineering and architectural engineering, including but not limited to: Innovative Structural Design, Building Design and Materials, Building Design Technology and Manufacturing, Architectural Acoustics, Lighting Design, Structural Engineering and Materials, Computational Methods, Structural Dynamics, Risk Assessment, Building Services & Technology, andEnvironmental Engineering. Preference will be given to applicants that can demonstrate a strong and innovative research and teaching track record within traditional disciplines or within cross-disciplinary topics (e.g. bridging engineering topics to architecture and vice versa) that will lead to the establishment of new world-class research groups at AU. The positions will be anchored in the Department’s CAE section.

Successful candidates are expected to work closely with other researchers/groups within the section and Department as well as with external stakeholders. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary team is essential. Successful candidates must also have a PhD in Civil or Architectural Engineering, or a related cross-disciplinary field. The candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Further expectations for the various levels of appointment are:

Assistant Professor (tenure track): Candidates must demonstrate potential for outstanding research and teaching. Some years of post-graduate research and publication experience is required. Experience from successful external research collaborations with industry and academia, project management skills, and experience in attraction of external funding is preferred.

Associate Professor: Candidates must have an outstanding record of research accomplishment, an established record of external funding, and concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field. 

For both levels, commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including existing courses and development of new courses, is expected.

Tenure Track Program at Science and Technology
Aarhus University offers talented scientists from around the world attractive career perspectives via the Science and Technology Tenure Track Program. Highly qualified candidates will be appointed for a period of six years with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured position. 

The aim of the Science and Technology Tenure Track Program is to:

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate will be offered:

As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Program, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review will be conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor/Senior Researcher at Aarhus University.

Your application must contain a visionary research statement with concrete research proposals, a teaching statement, a CV including current research activities, R&D experience, a complete publication list as well as your teaching, fundraising and leadership experience. Both research and teaching statements should not be longer than 2-3 pages in length each. Please provide your ResearcherID, Google Scholar profile link, and/or a unique search query in Google Scholar and/or Web of Science to retrieve your publication and citation track record. Also, please provide names of references (minimum 3) whom the search committee may contact directly. Finally, you must indicate level (Assistant Professor or Associate Professor) and one or two (in case of cross-disciplinary activity) main disciplines that you specialize in.

Application procedure 
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications - and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, - the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process. 
 

Formalities and salary range 
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. 
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
