Academic Technician at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University: single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction within inorganic chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for an academic candidate (AC-TAP). The position includes scientific, administrative as well as teaching duties at the Department of Chemistry within inorganic materials chemistry. The intended start date for this appointment is April 1st, 2018, or as soon as possible. 

The candidate is expected to contribute to: 

  • Maintenance, user training and management of the powder diffractometers at the Department of Chemistry, currently three instruments including two with rotating anodes.
  • Maintenance, user training and management of the single crystal X-ray diffractometers at the Department of Chemistry, currently four instruments including specialized cooling and pressure facilities.
  • Maintenance of the SAXS instruments at the Department of Chemistry and iNANO, currently two instruments.
  • Assistance of users in single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction experiments, and analysis of the data.
  • Management of diffractometer support laboratories including microscopes, sample environment etc.
  • Assistance in development and maintenance of advanced sample environments for use e.g. at the DanMAX beamline at MAX4
  • Participate in teaching of relevant laboratory courses in chemistry.
  • Various duties related to the Department of Chemistry.

The candidate will be a part of a team, which supports research in inorganic and materials chemistry, and which shares some of the daily duties in maintenance of the instrument park at the Department related to the research groups in inorganic chemistry. Furthermore, the candidate will provide support to the involved research groups. 

The successful candidate must have solid understanding of chemistry and crystallography, and a strong background in instrumentation, instrument control software, and diffraction data collection. Good technical understanding of diffraction experiments, setup of non-standard powder and single crystal X-ray experiments and data collection is also a request. Experience in analysis of single crystal and/or powder diffraction data by Rietveld refinement is an advantage. The candidate should have an MSc or PhD degree in chemistry, crystallography, chemical engineering, nanoscience, physics or similar.
