Academic Technician at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University: NMR spectroscopy for use in inorganic and organic chemistry 

The Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for an academic employee (AC-TAP) with focus on scientific, administrative and teaching duties within NMR of inorganic materials and organic chemistry. The intended start date for this appointment is February 1st, 2018 or as soon as possible.

The candidate is expected to contribute to:

  • the daily operation, maintenance and further development of solid-state NMR spectrometers for inorganic materials research
  • the maintenance of liquid-state NMR spectrometers used in organic chemistry
  • cryogen filling of the spectrometers
  • development and implementation of new NMR experiments and hardware
  • data analysis and presentation of results for external users 
  • the supervision and assistance of internal users and students in choosing and setting up experiments in both inorganic solid-state NMR and organic liquid-state NMR
  • participation in teaching of laboratory courses in chemistry
  • various other duties at the Department of Chemistry 

The candidate will be a part of a team, which supports research using NMR spectroscopy and its applications in chemistry, and which partly shares some of the daily duties. This research team is also a part of the Danish Center for Ultrahigh-Field NMR Spectroscopy located at iNANO (www.nmr.au.dk). Furthermore, the candidate will collaborate closely with a team of support staff in organic chemistry.

The successful candidate must have a strong background in chemistry related instrumentation broadly defined on both a practical and theoretical level and a good technical understanding of how to operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment. Knowledge on solid- and solution- state NMR spectroscopy, including experience in implementations of NMR experiments and a good technical understanding of NMR spectrometers will be considered a plus. The candidate must have a MSc or PhD degree in chemistry, nanoscience, or chemical engineering.
