The University of the Faroe Islands is the primary higher education and research institution in the Faroe Islands, the nation’s only university and its foremost knowledge centre. The University has around 100 academic staff, some 60 staff in support and service positions, and around 1,000 students. The University is comprised of five faculties and a central administration. The University is seeking to recruit to a new academic position in engineering in its Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. This Faculty delivers bachelor’s programmes in biology, information technology and engineering. The Faculty also contributes other aspects of education, all linked to and supported by a strengthening culture of research and enterprise. The Faculty has some 25 staff and 70 students, and is led by a Faculty Research Team, comprised of the Dean, a Deputy Dean (currently vacant) and a Faculty Research Leader.

The Position
The Faculty is seeking to appoint to a new academic position in engineering to support the development and delivery of engineering programmes with emphasis on marine engineering.

The main responsibility for the new position will be, working as part of the new programme team, to develop and deliver courses of relevance in marine engineering. The research of the successful applicant will be in the specific field of expertise and experience of the applicant.
The appointment will be as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Teaching Lecturer, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.

Qualifications
Applicants should hold, as a minimum, a relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. cand.polyt., cand.scient., Master of Engineering, Master of Science), and have relevant work experience.

It is desirable that applicants fulfil one or more of the following:

  • have a PhD degree in a relevant subject area
  • have experience in higher education teaching and/or research
  • have work experience from the field of marine engineering, e.g. power supply, engine technology, ship technology etc.
  • have language comprehension in Faroese and another Nordic language, as well as in English.

Terms of appointment
The position will be filled according to the Regulations Governing Positions at the University of the Faroe Islands. The salary and general terms of appointment will be in accordance with agreements between the Ministry of Finance and the Faroese professional union Akademikarafelag Føroya.

Closing date
15th of September 2021. The aim will be for the successful candidate to take up the position as soon as is reasonably possible after the offer of the position.
