The goal is to develop theory and computational methods for dental radiology with the focus on (1) detection and classification of anatomic structures and anomalies in dental radiographs, and (2) tomographic reconstruction for substantial reduction of radiation dose in dental imaging. The intention is that, as the result of the PhD project, one obtains significant advances to the state-of-the-art imaging methodology that are directly utilizable in the next generation dental imaging devices.

The selected PhD candidate will be employed by 3Shape Medical A/S while the PhD education will be enrolled by University of Copenhagen. The company supervisor will be Morten Boll and the university supervisor Sami S. Brandt. The role as an industrial PhD student implies that one part of the working time will be spent in the company and the other part in the university.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following qualifications:

Master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or similar, relevant to the project topic

  • Good mathematical and problem-solving skills
  • Top grades from the university education
  • A candidate with the Danish education must fulfill the grade requirements and education criteria set by the Innovationsfonden for industrial PhD candidate, see www.innovationsfonden.dk/en/guidelines-industrial-phd
  • An Industrial PhD candidate with a non-Danish education must be among the top 30 pct. in the graduation class for the study programme for the master’s and bachelor’s degrees combined. The application must include documentation for the ranking of the candidate and the documentation must be certified by the institution where the education was carried out
  • Strong programming skills. Knowledge of GPU programming is an advantage
  • Mindset for research, curiosity, and quality, and can-do attitude
