For our Product Development organisation, we are looking for a Design Engineer to work with the specific task of designing the next generation of window construction that supports a new pane technology. Your challenges
For our next generation of windows we are looking for a bright and creative engineer with the high drive and potential to take up this great opportunity making disruptive solutions. You will be a part of a team developing new technologies, where your overall task will be to understand and develop window concepts that integrate a new pane design in the most optimal way.

Through conceptual thinking, you will continuously be looking for other opportunities to optimise the use of the pane. You will be joining a smaller organisation with very dedicated colleagues working primarily with research and development. To reach our ambitious objectives you will collaborate closely with the rest of the team, knowledge partners, test and validation institutes, universities and IP specialists.

You will be working both at a creative conceptual level and be the specialist, who can work in detail with technical drawings and new mechanical constructions bringing the concepts to life. One of your engineering tasks will be to do thermal and mechanical simulations.

Other relevant tasks will be to:

  • Develop the ideas and concepts for new disruptive solutions for windows constructions
  • Design and analyse the new constructions in regards to thermal performance and mechanical strength
  • Evaluate existing and emerging products and materials to provide new solutions and for use in window designs
  • Build a good understanding of the functionality and integration of the pane in window designs
  • Participate in effectively and progressive ensuring intellectual property rights
  • Prepare the prototypes for testing

A certain amount of travelling must be expected - approximately 40-50 days per year.

Your qualifications
You bring to the position a relevant degree in Engineering and you combine your theoretical background with at least five years of relevant work experience. Besides being a highly skilled engineer, your experience also include working with thermal and mechanical simulations and you know how to bring your disruptive concepts to life. Preferably, you have experience from the window or glass industry, building industry, or from product development with designing physical products. You could have some prior experience with disruptive development, including design of novel approaches with potential to be patented.

It is important that your technical skills are well proven and that you have experience with thermal and mechanical calculations as well as experience with new constructions. Furthermore, you are able to combine the calculations and the knowledge of constructions in the design of new products that meet product requirements and customer expectations.

On a more personal level you have the natural ability for being innovative and creative along with strong collaboration skills and the ability to interact and align diverse stakeholders across multiple geographies and business units. In addition, it is essential that you have the willingness to change, that you are result and progress oriented with a “can-do attitude” and not afraid to challenge the existing.

As you will engage with different stakeholders and have close contact with many nationalities across the VELUX organisation, the role also requires you to be fully proficient in English.
