Senior Project Manager for electrical systems for offshore wind farms

Would you like to lead on the development and execution of electrical system projects for offshore wind farms?

Join us and become Senior Project Manager in the Electrical Project Management team in Wind Power Engineering. The department is responsible for the development and construction of electrical systems for offshore wind projects. As Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for either the delivery of the electrical systems that connect an Asset Project offshore wind farm to the transmission grid or the development and procurement of standardised concepts which will support our strategy for reducing asset lifetime costs and form part of future Asset projects.

Electrical Project Management consists of in excess of 25 project managers located in London, Hamburg and Copenhagen, and we provide leadership and manage the teams responsible for electrical engineering, procurement and construction of electrical works, related to offshore wind farms.

The department is part of Wind Power which has 1800 employees and is one of four business units in DONG Energy. Wind Power is the world’s largest developer and operator of offshore wind power, and we use our unique knowledge in all phases of our wind turbine projects. During the last 20 years, we have developed and constructed the largest portfolio of offshore wind farms in Northern Europe, and we are expanding with international activities in the US and Asia-Pacific.

You may choose freely to be based either at our Danish office in Gentofte in the Greater Copenhagen area or alternatively at our London office in the United Kingdom on local terms and conditions. However, you should in both cases expect some travelling in relation to your work.

You will be assigned to either a product line or a specific asset project in the development or execution phase, with responsibility for the scope and budget associated with a single package across the portfolio, or a with a group of packages for a single project. You will be leading a dedicated project team, delivering standardised and optimised products to the agreed time and quality and at the lowest cost, while ensuring the highest level of safety.

You will report to a Product Line / Programme / EPC Director and cooperate with other project managers and support functions at programme level.

Moreover, you will cooperate with a vast variety of other stakeholders and contributors across different line functions in a matrix organisation.

Your key duties will be to 

  • accept day-to-day accountability for and lead a team responsible for the management of engineering, procurement and construction works for the electrical system, submarine- and land cable supply and installation, transformers and HV/MV components, protection and control 
  • accept day-to-day accountability for and manage a wide range of risks: health & safety, programme, cost, quality and compliance with specifications across either a group of contracts as part of a multi-contract concept 
  • lead a team involving Procurement / Contract Management, Quality Control, Electrical Engineering and Offshore Cable Installation resources as well as supporting services 
  • accept day-to-day accountability for and lead the preparation and delivery of project gate and project management documentation, such as project scope, costs, risks and interfaces 
  • manage external stakeholders, such as suppliers and installation contractors, transmission owners and local authorities.

Furthermore, you will contribute to strategic and operational development of the Electrical Project Management function.

Your qualifications and core competences include that you

  • hold an engineering degree relevant for electrical systems/offshore works/construction or you have a similar relevant education and experience.
  • are a highly experienced project manager (5+ years), preferably with a PMP certification or similar, as we use PMI/PMBOK as project management framework 
  • have extensive relevant work experience in leading large teams on technically complex and high-value construction projects, preferably involving offshore cable installation. 
  • have exceptional communication and negotiation skills and speak and write English fluently 
  • are able to prioritise and execute your tasks in order to meet deadlines.

Furthermore, you are prepared to work intensely during busy periods. You have a profound interest in green energy and working in a rapidly developing industry. Moreover, you have good interpersonal skills, and thrive on working in a dynamic environment with many stakeholders and contacts across the organisation.
