Center for Electric Power and Energy at DTU Electrical Engineering seeks highly talented applicants for a position as senior researcher within advanced control in relation to renewable energy integration, smart buildings and seamless integration with other energy domains.

Our center has received increased recognition internationally for its contribution to both methodological and application related aspects of modern power system engineering. A key area of focus is on integration of high shares of intermittent renewable power production through the design of appropriate mechanisms on the production and consumption side as well as electrical storage systems for securing an efficient and reliable power system operation.

Our new colleague will be employed in the group Energy Resource, Services and Control which is currently involved in a number of cutting-edge research projects on grid integration of electric transportation as well as seamless integration of the power system with other domains (gas, heat, water, waste water, transportation). The group has leading expertise in renewable energy technologies, energy conversion and smart components including smart homes and buildings.

The successful candidate is expected to expand and develop his/her own profile within the area of electric power engineering and integrated energy systems. The position is available from July 2017.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will take active part in developing, carrying out research and  contribute to our teaching activities at the BSc and/or MSc levels within subjects covering from classical electric power engineering to theory and practice within new smart grid technologies monitoring and control.

Furthermore we expect the successful candidate to supervise PhD students.

The senior researcher will contribute to collaboration at the department level, to external collaboration with industrial partners and will take part in managing research and innovation activities. He/she is expected to cooperate with colleagues within the center and within other departments of DTU, e.g. at DTU Civil Engineering, DTU Mechanical Engineering and DTU Management Engineering as well as with researchers from other universities.

We offer access to cutting-edge experimental facilities, PowerLabDK, including a full-scale experimental control center, distributed field testing laboratory SYSLAB, high-performance computational facilities and one of the world’s largest power system real-time digital simulators.

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc.
  • document didactic/pedagogic training

Furthermore the candidate must have the following qualifications

  • The candidate must be driven by scientific curiosity as well as being creative and innovative.
  • A solid background in distributed energy resources and the related control.
  • Theory and practical techniques related to advanced control.
  • The candidate must be good at collaborating with colleagues, students and external partners.
  • Experience from management of international/national research projects will be an advantage.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • scientific production and research potential at an international level
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation
  • experience in teaching and education

Consideration will be given to documented experience at high international level within power systems with high share of renewables, distributed resources, cross energy domain integration and consumer-near technology solutions e.g. based on model predictive control, microcontroller technology, micro grid solutions, and hardware-in-the-loop simulation.

We prefer candidates who are able to combine theoretical and/or experimental work with modelling.
