Assistant Professor in Building Energy Management

The Department of Engineering at Aarhus University, Denmark, has an open position for an Assistant professor in building energy management in the Indoor Climate and Energy Research Group which is a part of the Civil and Architectural Engineering Section. The position is a 4-year long Assistant Professor position.

The position is available from August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Responsibilities include developing an innovative strategic research agenda together with colleagues and external partners, nurturing and leading excellent research activities, contributing to an inspiring and industrially relevant education at undergraduate and graduate levels and expanding industrial collaboration.

Applicants should as a minimum hold a PhD degree related to building science and/or building energy production and supply systems, and are expected to have a general academic profile in civil or architectural engineering. 

Applicants are expected to have a PhD degree and experience as a post doc within architectural engineering of building envelopes and mechanical systems for buildings. More specifically, the successful applicant is required to have a strong background in indoor climate issues, HVAC design and operation, and energy-efficient building envelope design. Competencies in building thermal modelling and general control theory are absolute requirements the applicant must fulfil.  The applicants should also possess extensive experience in model predictive control, generation of data-driven models, and programming language(s) relevant to the field. Moreover, basic knowledge about statistics, district heating systems and electricity markets is preferred.

The applicants are expected to conduct applied research through externally-sponsored projects, thus prior experiences from successful research collaboration within both academia and industry is preferred. A preexisting and growing international and national research network is expected from a successful applicant. The successful applicant must show to be a research talent documented through rising publication and citation records evidenced by appropriate bibliometric parameters in reputable civil and structural engineering or architectural related journals. Applicants are expected to participate in research supervision of MSc students, PhD candidates and postdocs, be engaged in research project management and have demonstrable potential to attract externally funded research. The applicants will be required to teach existing civil and architectural engineering related courses and to develop new, specialized course offerings within his/her field of specialty in the Department’s BSc and MSc programmes.

Applicants should as a minimum hold a PhD degree and have a couple of years of post-graduate research and publication experience. The successful candidate must show to be a research talent documented through rising publication records in highly ranked journals or conferences related to the field. Experience from successful external research collaborations with industry and academia, project management skills, and experience in attracting external funding is preferred.

This means that after the deadline for applications - and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, - the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
