Associate Professor in Ethics of Technology

DTU Management Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as associate professor in Ethics of Technology. The position will be affiliated a small research group within the department’s Technology and Innovation Management division. The current research of the group falls under the areas: robot ethics, machine ethics, bioethics and food ethics.

Responsibilities and tasks
The research of the new associate professor should fall within analytical ethics and formal modelling, and preferably be conducted as interdisciplinary research involving scientists within the technical domains of DTU.

It is a key task to publish the results of the research in internationally recognized journals and to communicate research results to a wider audience. The new associate professor is also expected to further develop and strengthen the group’s cooperation with similar groups at DTU’s alliance partners in Europe and internationally as well as at other technical universities around the world.

The new associate professor is responsible for carrying out and developing research-based teaching in Theory of Science in Engineering at BSc level as well as the coordination of teaching Ethics of Technology at BEng level. Among the responsibilities is also to coordinate a team of teachers (both faculty and teaching assistants) and to contribute to the further development of the teaching and pedagogical organisation of Ethics of Technology.

Supervising and supporting doctoral students will also be a central task. Contributions to doctoral courses and the university’s executive programmes are welcomed.

The new associate professor is expected to develop cooperation with other research groups at DTU Management Engineering and other departments at DTU; in particular DTU Diplom and DTU’s Life Science & Bioengineering departments.

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship
  • document didactic/pedagogic training  

The ideal candidate has a broad foundation within ethics of technology and theory of science in engineering, as well as experiences in ethics related to life sciences and bioengineering.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • experience in teaching and education
  • scientific production and research potential at an international level
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation

For the specific position consideration will also be given to:

  • experiences in attracting external funding in cooperation with industry, public organisations and international universities
  • writing and communication skills in English and Danish
  • interest in technology and engineering

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
