Research Assistant or Postdoc position in MATChE - Making the Transition to Circular Economy

A Research Assistant or Postdoc position (2 years) is available at the Section of Engineering Design and Product Development, within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. The position is created in connection with the project “Making the Transition to Circular Economy (MATChE)”.
 
The MATChE project is supported by the Danish Industry Foundation and is running in collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), The Danish Environmental Protection Agency (Danish EPA) and CHORA Connection. The Research Assistant will work closely with the consortium partners and industrial stakeholders.
 
Responsibilities and tasks
The aim of the project is to support the Danish industry to increase its competitiveness, growth and job creation by demonstrating how to engage in an effective transition towards Circular Economy (CE), based on current readiness assessment and strategic driver identification. 
 
The project is organised in the following areas: 

  • CE readiness: conceptualisation, evaluation and implementation of a self-assessment CE readiness methodology. Readiness will be evaluated in terms of organisational structures, value chain configuration, stakeholder willingness, product and technology suitability, sustainability performance, and economic potential.
  • CE transition paths: consolidation of the state-of-the-art knowledge about CE for the development of effective paths for the transition to CE (incl. business model innovation, product/service-systems design, operation and maintenance, and closed loop strategies). 

Strong collaboration with the other partners in the consortium is expected for the development, validation and implementation of the project. More than 100 Danish companies are expected to be engaged in the project activities.
 
The candidate will publish his/her research results in international peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences and seminars.

Qualifications
The applicant for the research assistant position should be highly motivated and hold a Master’s degree, preferably within Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related areas. Good understanding of the field of circular economy and experience with sustainability are required. Furthermore, good command of both English and Danish (written and spoken) are required. 
 
The applicant for the postdoc position should be highly motivated and hold a PhD degree, preferably within Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related areas. Good understanding of the field of circular economy and experience with sustainability are required. Furthermore, good command of both English and Danish (written and spoken) are required. 

Further qualifications 

  • Candidate must have experience in collaboration with large and small manufacturing companies.
  • Candidate must have knowledge in at least two of the following five fields: sustainability assessment, sustainable design, business model innovation, product development, corporate sustainability.
  • Excellent early achievement track record (publications, awards, conference presentations, etc.)
  • Strong work ethics and motivation to succeed within a competitive research field
  • Team spirit and excellent collaboration skills

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for Post-doctorate Researchers. The period of employment is 2 years, with possibility for extension.
