DTU Fotonik opens a faculty position in experimental plasmonics.

Responsibilities and tasks
The aim is to strengthen experimental explorations of plasmons with perspectives for future quantum technologies and plasmon-enhanced energy harvesting, light-emission, and sensing. In particular, recent advances in nanofabrication technologies have created an interest in metallic nanostructures and 2D materials, where light-matter interactions are enhanced due to extreme spatial localization of plasmons.

The candidate is expected to take an active role in the teaching curriculum in physics and optics at DTU, and also take active role in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

The DTU research infrastructure offers state-of-the art cleanroom facilities (DTU Danchip) and a unique electron microscope facility in Northern Europe with two FEI Titans equipped with monochromated EELS (DTU CEN).

DTU Fotonik has a strong international visibility in the field of photonics and is hosting state-of-the-art optical characterization and spectroscopy. The candidate is expected to contribute to the Center of Excellence for Nanostructured Graphene (www.cng.dtu.dk) and the recently established Center for Quantum Technologies (www.quantum.dtu.dk).

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship
  • document didactic/pedagogic training

The successful candidate has a strong scientific track-record and a documented experience in experimental plasmonics, including fabrication and characterization methods that allow explorations of plasmons deep into the nanoscale regime. Experience with near-field spectroscopies is required, such as near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM), cathodoluminescence (CL), or electron-energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). It will be an advantage with additional experience in cleanroom fabrication methods and low-dimensional materials. The candidate holds international experience with demonstrations of research achievements at the highest international level.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to

  • experience in teaching and education
  • scientific production and research potential at an international level
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation

We offer
DTU offers an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, scientific advice and innovation which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. We strive for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility. DTU is a leading technical university in Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The position as associate professor is permanent.
