Associate/Assistant Professor in Smart Mobility Modelling

DTU Management Engineering’s Transport Modelling Division invites applications for an appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Smart Mobility Modelling.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Transport Modelling Division is a research group of scientists and support staff with an aim to understand mathematically and algorithmically representing, predicting and analysing transport phenomena in perspectives that range from private to public transport. They also work with real-time operations to long term planning, classical mobility technologies to new “smart” mobility options (e.g. Autonomous Vehicles, Electrical Vehicles, Mobility as a Service, Sharing modes).

The aim of the new position is to expand the Department’s teaching and research in modelling mainly within the field of smart mobility.

We seek ambitious candidates with a strong research focus on transport modelling, based on mathematical modelling and computer science. We envision the position to help expand the division’s research in application areas such as

  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Electrical vehicles
  • Mobility as a Service
  • Modelling in public transportation
  • Big Data in transport modelling
  • Disruption modelling and safety

The duties of an assistant professor include research (including publication/scientific dissemination), research-based teaching and innovation. The particular position is also expected to outreach to the industry and public sector. The distribution between the various duties may vary periodically, but a balance must be struck such that the assistant professor can develop within research, teaching, innovation and outreach to the industry and public sector. The division is keen to ensure that an assistant professor is given supervision and guidance, and develops a teaching portfolio in order to qualify eventually for an associate professorship within maximum 3-5 years.

The duties of an associate professor include the above mentioned, as well as further responsibilities in attracting external funds, managing projects research, advising PhD-students and mentoring junior research staff.

The associate/assistant professor is expected to take interest in exploiting the possibilities of developing collaboration with related groups both internally at the Department and externally with other departments at the university (e.g., the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science and Department of Electrical Engineering).”

Since the position is permanent, we expect candidates to eventually learn Danish. DTU's graduate courses are taught in English, whereas most undergraduate courses are taught in Danish. Some of the industry outreach will benefit of Danish language skills, as well as transport surveys and other travel behaviour data are collected in Danish.

Qualifications
Candidates for an

  • Ability and desire to contribute to the Divisions national and international collaborative efforts, including the dissemination of research results and research-based consultancy and innovation in society.

Relevant knowledge and/or experience in any of the following topics will be very positively considered:

  • Microscopic simulation tools and flow theory
  • Network modelling and transport assignment
  • Traffic control theory
  • Transport demand model estimation and calibration
  • Large-scale modelling
  • Safety in transport
  • Statistical method (cluster analyses, multivariate statistics, stochastic simulation), machine learning and data analytics
  • Smart mobility vehicle technologies (e.g. sensing, software, technology visions, vehicle to vehicle/infrastructure/cloud communications)

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • experience in teaching and education
  • scientific production and research potential at an international level
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
