Become part of the Reporting & BI Team in Telenor Denmark
The Reporting & BI Team - within the Customer & Business Intelligence department - is responsible for creating management information and reporting in both consumer and business segments and develop our data capabilities in a direction of simplicity and usability. Our reports stand out by, while relying on hard data and facts, document trends in our business performance before trends manifests in our financial books.
We work closely with business owners to understand the commercial strategy, challenges and opportunities, and we design and manage end-to-end reports using both external and internal data to provide insights to support specific business decisions and initiatives.
Being in the middle of an exciting and all-consuming strategic transformation, the team’s main tasks will be creating and maintaining reports, advocating self-service reporting and proactively work to make data practical and intuitive for business.
The team is part of a department bent on making data and insights drive business performance and decisions - an agenda that is a strategic cornerstone and has full support in top management, e.g. with new investments in Big Data capabilities.
Your role in the team: raise the bar for reporting in Telenor
To succeed in the team, you need to enjoy the process of digging into the data warehouse at the most granular level. At the same time you must be able to explain and guide the business in a style and language that they can comprehend. You can give the business stakeholders guidance in a dynamic situation where everyone is still getting used to the new sources and data, while simultaneously changing and improving the reporting universe. You will be a (pro)active asset when it comes to developing our central reporting in a fashion that helps business understand performance at a glance.
The “self-service reporting” agenda means helping ensure that the data warehouse data is accessible to the self-service users in a coherent, structured and unambiguous setup. A tangible facet of this is to maintain and develop the “business glossary” available for the users for understanding data.
Generally you need to be curious and sharing when it comes to the reporting tools and interfaces provided (Cognos, along with its applications and extensions).
Our new highly motivated Senior BI Specialist
Highlights of preferred or desired competencies:
- An MSc degree in Economics, Engineering or similar is of value
- IBM Cognos knowledge of great importance; skills in similar reporting tools (Tableau, Business Objects) also of value
- IBM Cognos Report Studio developer experience a clear benefit
- Data model understanding necessary; IBM model, IBM Netezza knowledge an advantage
- Solid SQL experience needed: Examples – MySQL, Netezza (Oracle, MS-SQL)
- Knowledge around Cube architecture (e.g. OLAP) of great benefit
- Highly analytical, able to design working solutions in both known and unknown environments
- MS Office programmes (MS Excel and PowerPoint) on a user level
- English skills both written and spoken, Danish
- Good understanding of corporate financials – the key is to understand the links between report KPIs and actual financial value creation
- Specific experience from similar position and/or telco industry is not required for this position, but of course a plus

Note that this is formally a maternity leave position with an estimated end date around April 2018. In reality internal changes can of course create other possibilities.
