The National Food Institute (DTU Food), a department at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applications for a position as Associate/Assistant Professor in Food Production Engineering.
The Food Production Engineering research group has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations and a successful track record of national and international research projects.

The research group aims to provide new, cutting-edge knowledge of principles of industrial food processing and the creation of novel technologies within this field. The focus is on a deeper physical and chemical mechanistic understanding of food processing. This is supported by mathematical modelling and the use of advanced methods for monitoring of food production systems and distribution systems. The group’s research will enable food manufacturers to produce and distribute healthy, safe and resource cost-effective foods of high quality with a minimum of waste.

Responsibilities and tasks
Candidates will be expected to contribute to developing the research within industrial food processing and the creation of novel technologies. Tasks include the development of mathematical models to simulate quality changes in various food products, while optimizing energy and raw material uses during processing.

Candidates must take part in fund raising activities to develop the research field of solving heat and mass transfer problems in food further.
The position includes responsibilities for conducting research based teaching in existing courses in Food Technology at bachelor, master and PhD level, including student project supervision.

The group has an extensive, cross-disciplinary collaboration with other departments at DTU. Candidates will be responsible for utilizing such collaboration to build and incorporate more disciplinary oriented physical and chemical process knowledge into the food research theme.

The candidate is expected to acquire relevant didactic and pedagogical competencies in teaching food engineering at a high level.

The candidate is expected to engage in innovation activities and work closely with industrial partners. A particular task is to continue and develop the activities of the 3D-printing of food further.

Qualifications
Emphasis will be put on the candidate’s potential to develop the research area and on original scientific production at international level.

The general qualification requirements are:

  • Applicants must have a scientific background in food technology or food Engineering
  • Applicants must demonstrate excellent competences on an international level in numerical modelling (FEM, CFD) for solving heat and mass transfer problems in food
  • Applicants must preferably have experience with 3D-print/additive manufacturing in food

Candidates for an
Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training.
