In our department for Waste and Contaminated Sites the most recent development of our services has been the creation of an international business line within solid waste and contaminated sites enabling us to meet the challenges and opportunities we face every day. For this exciting development of our business we are looking for a replacement of our Head of Section for Contaminated Sites - are you ready to join us?

COWI's department for Waste and Contaminated Sites is in the forefront within water, environment and climate. A job with us will give you great opportunities for being involved in exciting projects and influencing your long-term professional development.

Our department for Waste and Contaminated Sites provides assistance to public and private clients in handling environmental issues covering services such as contamination investigations, soil and groundwater sampling, risk assessments, and property development. The department currently numbers 90 employees, and you will be our new Head of Section for a team of approximately 20 employees. You will report to the Vice President of the department, and your daily work will be concentrated on your customers and your team staff.

As our Head of Section you will join us in the exciting development of new markets within contaminated sites, but another important role is supporting and motivating the team staff. Do you have excellent people skills and a profound interest in developing the business; this might be the right position for you.

Experienced within contaminated sites and remidiation
You have a relevant educational background at B.Sc. or M.Sc. level and have several years of professional experience with contaminated soil and remediation assignments including projects developed in cooperation with private contractors, property developers and large infrastructure clients.

Primarily, you will be responsible for people management of your team in close cooperation with the relevant market managers, who are managing the market portfolios.

The job involves coordination of staffing of assignments in order to ensure optimal allocation, development of your employees as well as to secure relevant resources for the projects.

Secondly, you will have an active role either as market manager or as senior project manager depending on your skills and interests. Your main customer responsibility includes private contractors, property developers, utilities, harbours and municipalities.

In general, your assignments will vary and be solved in close cooperation with other departments and technical experts.

The position requires some travelling activity to other COWI offices in Denmark, but your daily workplace can be any of the COWI offices where the team staff is located. Hence, the preferred office of employment could be Aalborg, Aarhus, Vejle, Odense or Lyngby. Travel frequency will be in the range of one to two days per week depending on which office you will be working from.

You have documented successful experience in the following areas: people management; market management; and project management.

Your professional and personal skills:

  • You are able to manage, develop and motivate employees
  • You have experience in optimal allocation of resources and utilization between offices
  • You can create engagement and motivation in your employees
  • You communicate openly and frankly 
  • You have experience and interest in management in a knowledge-based company
  • You have an interest in counselling our customers at a highly professional level
  • You are fluent in Danish and English both orally and in writing.
