Associate/Assistant Professor in Electric Power Systems
DTU Electrical Engineering seeks highly talented applicants for a position as assistant/associate professor within Electric Power Systems with particular interest in renewable energy integration and related power system stability and control.
The assistant/associate professor is expected to be involved in teaching at BSc, MSc and PhD levels within subjects covering from classical electric power engineering to new smart grid technologies.
The successful candidate is expected to expand and develop his/her own profile within the area of electric power engineering. The position is available from September 2017
Responsibilities and tasks
You will take active part in developing and carrying out research at our Center for Electric Power and Energy as a member of its Electric Power System Engineering group. The center has received recognition internationally for its contribution to both methodological and application related aspects of modern power system engineering. A key area of focus is on integration of high shares of variable and partly predictable renewable power production through the design of appropriate mechanisms both on the production and consumption side for securing an efficient and reliable power system operation.
Our group is currently involved in a number of cutting-edge projects for real time assessment of power system stability limits and blackout risk analysis. We have leading expertise in renewable energy and low inertia system operation and protection.
You will contribute to the internal collaboration at the department, external collaboration with industrial partners and take part in management of research and innovation activities. You will take part in the department’s education within the electrical engineering programs at BSc, MSc and PhD levels. The new assistant/associate professor is expected to cooperate with colleagues at the center and with other departments of DTU, e.g. at DTU Wind and DTU Management Engineering as well as with researchers from other universities.
You will have access to cutting-edge experimental facilities, PowerLabDK, including a full-scale experimental control center, high-performance computational facilities and one of the world’s largest power system real-time digital simulators.
Candidates for an
- assistant professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
- associate professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training.
The candidate must be driven by scientific curiosity as well as being creative and innovative. A solid background in power system engineering, including stability and control, as well as related mathematical techniques is required.
The candidate must be good at collaborating with colleagues, students and external partners.
Experience from participation in large international/national projects is an advantage.
The candidate must be experienced in general and basic power system technology. Furthermore consideration will be given to documented experience at high international level with at least one of the following topics preferably related to systems with high share of renewables and distributed resources:
- Methods for power system static and dynamic modelling including equivalents and network reduction methods
- Analysis methods for power transmission grids
- Dynamic security monitoring and assessment methods for power systems
- Real-time power system control methods
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
- experience in teaching and education
- scientific production and research potential at an international level
- the ability to promote and utilize research results
- an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
- the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of professional associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
The position as associate professor and assistant professor is permanent. The assistant professor will after a maximum of 4 years transfer to a position as associate professor provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and deemed qualified.
