Postdoctoral Position within the Field of Analytical Chemistry Applied to Archaeometry  

A two-year postdoctoral position within the field of analytical chemistry applied to archaeometry is available at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The position is available from 1 March 2017 or shortly thereafter. Application deadline: 14 December 2016.

The postdoctoral position is part of the project TheCityDwellers funded by The Danish Council for Independent Research. The position is in the group of Associate Professor Kaare Lund Rasmussen, CHART (Cultural Heritage and Archaeometric Research Team at SDU). The research will be focused on ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS applied to medieval human bones. The project is highly multidisciplinary, involving aspects of analytical chemistry, archaeology and biological anthropology. The position involves close interaction with the research group ADBOU at the Department of Forensic Medicine at SDU.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled person to work on solution ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS on samples of human bones procured from archaeological excavations. The successful candidate is required to have a strong background in analytical chemistry with documented research experience in this field. An additional requirement is a personal interest for archaeology and archaeometry.  

The position is available to candidates with a PhD degree in analytical chemistry or a related discipline. The candidates should be proficient in English and possess good interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:
A PhD in analytical chemistry or a closely related field is mandatory. Postdoctoral research experience is not mandatory, but will be considered an advantage. Previous teaching experience and demonstrated ability to attract research funding is an advantage.

Department Information:
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy (FKF) is home to 550 students and 40 permanent faculty members. It is the primary host of degree courses in chemistry, physics, nanobioscience and pharmacy. The programme emphasizes small classes, faculty instruction in both lectures and labs, and hands-on learning - from freshman-level general chemistry all the way through to senior-level independent research. The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
