Experienced senior consultant for development and scaling of biorefining processes

Danish Technological Institute in Taastrup is searching for a new colleague with experience in biorefining, process up-scaling and product development. You have a customer-oriented approach towards enabling the development and validation of processes and technologies within sustainable cascade utilization of bio-based resources. You will be part of a strong team that creates circular and economically sustainable solutions and paves the way for green transition by optimising utilisation of biomass.

Development activities and customer contact
In collaboration with your colleagues, you use your knowledge and vast experience in biomass fractionation, enzymatic hydrolysis, separation and/or purification as well as business development to help companies develop, test and scale up processes from laboratory to pilot scale (1000L), calculate business models and implement new solutions to add value and optimise the utilisation of bio resources in new or existing products (e.g. based on extracted fibers, oils, proteins, fatty acids etc)

Your areas of responsibilities include:

  • Reaching out to new customers, companies and public customers and offering advice on resource utilisation and development of sustainable, greener products
  • Creating Danish and international development projects in collaboration with companies focusing on biorefining, bioconversion and biomaterials and
  • Strengthening network and customer relationships through participation in international as well as national networks in circular resource economy
  • In collaboration with the group, being part of the active development of processes from laboratory to pilot scale
  • Contributing with your experience or creative solutions to technical challenges related to pilot scale equipment and process development for e.g. food, feed, building materials, packaging and other applications

Engineer or Master of Science with professional background in biorefining
You have a relevant background as an engineer or MSc, preferably supplemented by a PhD. You have good collaboration skills, but also thrive in working independently and prioritising your own tasks. You have insight into the importance of the chemical composition of biomass and bio-based residual streams as well as knowledge of chemical and biological processes, e.g. protein and enzyme science, microbiology, fermentation process technology, extraction, filtration, purification and chemical analyses. This includes experience with food technology and work in a food-approved processing plant. Besides your technical skills you have a strong understanding of business potential and commercial insight.

You are a good colleague and enjoy working in a team and in close collaboration with companies and universities. You continuously maintain and expand your large network within the industry and thus identify new development opportunities and project ideas. You initiate contact to new potential customers and business partners and have strong communication skills. The corporate language is Danish. The assignments are, to a large degree, internationally oriented which requires a proficient English level, both written and spoken.

Wood and Biomaterials
The section for Biomaterials and Fibre Technology is part of Wood and Biomaterials at the Danish Technological Institute. The centre currently has 55 employees working on commercial research and development, testing, demonstration and certification as well as commercial consulting. The different activities take place in a multidisciplinary and evolving environment where technological development is implemented into processes and products.  

Wood and Biomaterials has built a state-of-the-art food grade pilot scale process facility for biorefining virtually all types of biomass. We assist companies and participate in national and international research projects with the development of innovative processes to generate new sustainable products within the food, feed and biomaterials sector.
