DTU Space (the National Space Institute at the Technical University of Denmark) invites applications for an associate professor position in the area of extragalactic astrophysics.
The associate professor will play a central role in developing extragalactic astrophysics at the Cosmic Dawn Center of Excellence at DTU Space. A major focus of the Center is on far-IR and sub-millimetre extragalactic astronomy and the interplay between galaxy formation and the interstellar medium at the earliest cosmic epochs.

The ideal candidate should have an outstanding research profile in far-IR and sub-millimetre astronomy, including observational experience at major observatories. International research experience and membership of international collaborations and networks is highly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who also have a track record in theoretical and computational research within the field.

Responsibilities and tasks
The duties of the associate professor will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within astrophysics. This may also include performance of other duties.

As an associate professor at DTU Space, you are also expected to

  • formulate and execute observational programs on large observing facilities, e.g., VLT, ALMA, HST, and JWST
  • lead and participate in both national and international collaborations and activities associated with the Cosmic Dawn Center at DTU Space
  • teach bachelor and graduate students in the educational programs of DTU; most relevant within the fields of the program Earth and Space Physics and Engineering
  • supervise PhD students

Qualifications
Candidates for the position must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship.

Applicants with a strong research profile in extragalactic astrophysics, in particular far-IR and submillimetre astronomy are encouraged to apply. Flexibility and self-motivation are desired skills at DTU Space, as well as a natural interest in collaboration and personal responsibility. Finally, the candidate must document didactic/pedagogic training.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research impact and experience, funding track record, and research vision
  • Societal impact
  • Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • International impact and experience
  • Leadership potential and collaboration
  • Communication skills
