About the position
For our Loads, Control and Performances (LCP) Unit within the Service Technology Engineering department we are looking for new colleagues to work with us in wind turbine control. Main mission of LCP control engineers is to ensure proper wind turbine control operation and supervision performances (detecting deviations in wind turbine performance, control strategies and supervision systems and in the wind turbine software).  This team also will be evaluating, defining and validating solutions to correct and improve the wind turbine behavior in the field.

The control engineers are in charge of both definition and specification of control solutions for the solving of control related field problems as well as for the implementation of new functionalities as a result of technological developments. Testing and validation of the implemented control solutions are also part of their tasks.

In this position you will have a strong interaction with other departments, mainly with software loads and aerodynamics, but also with teams in the mechanical, electrical or SCADA units. The tasks require a high integration skill, being able to translate high definition requirements into low level control and software requirements and integrate them within current control definition and with other control and non-control related requirements. As a consequence the candidate must have an overall understanding of the main disciplines of wind turbine operation, i.e.: loads, aerodynamics, thermal conditioning mechanics, electrics and others.

Proper achievement of these functions involves good field data analysis, being able to process wind turbine data and analyze it for identification and resolution of onsite problems and validation of control solutions.

This position also involves continuous communication and contact with other control departments for knowledge sharing and coordination. The candidate must motivated also in this sense and be able to deal with proactivity within a young and growing team at Brande headquarters. Experience, leadership and motivation are “must haves” in order to fulfill this requirement.

About the role
As a wind turbine control engineer you will prepare definition, modelling and specification of wind turbine control, performance and supervision strategies as well as prepare test plans for the validation of the wind turbine control performance and supervision algorithms.

An important part of the job is to perform wind turbine control algorithms validation and tuning through aeroelastic simulation and hardware as well as analyze and perform root cause analysis (in case of deviations) of the wind turbine on field supervision and control algorithms and prepare proposals of improvements for solving those deviations. You will also analyze and collaborate in design of control strategies, focus on the optimization of energy production, wind turbine loads reduction, and availability improvement.

In this role you will prepare the integration of the wind turbine supervisory system into wind turbine control system and encourage and cooperate in the creation, managing and assurance of traceability of wind turbine controller models.

It is key that you cooperate with the team lead in the specification and development of new technical procedures/methodologies or tools needed to improve the team performance and knowledge and take part in the alignment, collaboration and coordination of different control departments in procedures, tasks, tools and knowledge sharing.

About you
The ideal candidate has excellent qualifications as an Industrial, Telecommunications or Aeronautical engineer or a Physics Degree specialized in Control Systems - you have a strong background in control theory. You are experienced in dynamic systems modelling and simulations, control algorithms design and modelling as well as signal handling and processing for control. You have relevant technical experience (around 3-5 years) and solid knowledge within automatic control, ideally related to wind turbine and wind farm control.

To be successful in this role you preferable:

  • are experienced in dynamic systems modelling and simulations, control algorithms design and modelling as well as signal handling and processing for control
  • are familiar with main sensors and actuators available for wind turbine control, with a domain of their principles of operation as well as their applications within wind turbine control
  • have experience in field of data handling for machine operation analysis, ideally wind turbine data analysis, processing data coming from different sensors for problem identification or for validation purposes
  • have an overall knowledge of the main wind turbine systems involved in wind turbine and have the skill of integrating their different control requirements for proper wind turbine operation
  • are able to translate high level control requirements into low level control and software requirements following standards for specifications of design requirements
  • have general knowledge and experience related to wind turbine and wind farm operation
  • have knowledge in testing a validation in order to check proper behavior of control developments
  • You have experience with control safety systems for machine operation, ideally related to wind turbine

You are a are proactive, a good team player, persistent and self-driven and you possess good communication skills. You are motivated and willing to deal with task involving coordination, aligning and knowledge management with other departments within control discipline. You have full professional English skills – both orally and in writing

Some travelling must be expected in this role

In case you have acquired your skills in alternative ways your application is just as well appreciated.
