We are seeking an experienced Vessel Manager, with a COC Chief Engineers (Class 1), a structured approach and strong interpersonal skills. You will be responsible for the supervision and safe running of a state-of- the-art Windfarm Installation vessel. The position will feed directly into Swire Blue Ocean’s technical strategy, advising management in Copenhagen and head office (Singapore) on maintenance, spares and upgrades. You will ensure cost effective management of assets in line with the company technical budget, with close focus on supplier management.

The Vessel Manager will be responsible for ensuring assets are maintained according to class and other statutory requirements, taking a proactive approach to continuing to build our strong relationship with these organisations. The vessel manager will be expected to closely interact with the project department to ensure technical modifications are closely vetted and client requests integrated with focus on technical integrity.

As wind turbines grow from 8 to 12 MW, SBO’s two industry-leading jack-ups will require optimisation to remain at the forefront of the sector. Although the main part of the Vessel Manager’s role will be concentrated on the day-to- day operating of the vessels, you will have the exciting opportunity to advise and propose technical efficiencies in upgrade forums. You would also be part of the Swire Pacific Offshore Group Technical Management team, participating in fleet strategy meetings as well as holding a direct matrix reporting line to the Fleet Technical Manager, Operations.

The position is based in Copenhagen and is a tremendous opportunity for someone with a marine engineering background interested in furthering a career in the renewables sector in a growing company, backed by a stable parent group.

Successful Candidate
Due to the breadth of the role and complexity of the vessels, the successful candidate will hold at least ten years of relevant experience from either onshore or offshore, with a combination preferred. You will need the ability to prioritise tasks, maintain rigorous technical discipline to statutory requirement compliance and hold strong interpersonal skills required for supporting the teams offshore and cooperating with other internal departments.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the offshore wind sector, with specific technical knowledge of jack-up vessels or other special purpose vessels being an advantage. Experience in budgeting and cost control is preferable and the individual should have experience working in an international environment with multiple stakeholders. Although the predominant focus of the role is marine, past exposure to the offshore construction sector and turnkey projects is beneficial, with Swire Blue Ocean currently stepping up the value chain to a T&I Services contractor.

Swire Blue Ocean
Swire Blue Ocean (SBO) is a leading provider of turbine and foundation installation services to the offshore wind industry. The company has developed a successful reputation, having delivered installation services on over twenty wind farms in Europe to clients such as Dong, Vattenfall and Siemens. SBO’s two jack-up vessels, Pacific Orca and Pacific Osprey are some of the most sophisticated in their field and well positioned to install next generation turbines.

SBO is now entering a new and exciting phase of development with a strategy to take on the full transport and installation (T&I) scopes. This will require the hiring of skilled and specialist personnel from both technical and project execution perspectives. SBO’s ultimate parent company, Swire Pacific Ltd, has been in operation for over 200 years and employs over 130,000 people worldwide. The Swire Group is committed to long-term investment and considers the growth of the offshore wind industry to be an excellent prospect for development within its marine services portfolio.
