The Water Technology Section is one of the five sections comprising the Department: Land, Air & Water Resources, Residual Resource Engineering, Urban Water Systems, Environmental Fate and Effect of Chemicals, and Water Technology. The Water Technology Section focuses on processes and technology for treating a range of water types by biological, chemical, physical and electrochemical approaches. The scales are ranging from molecular, over laboratory and pilot scale to full-scale and include experimentation, monitoring and modelling.

The purpose of the position is to conduct research in water treatment and online monitoring of water quality in treatment processes with special emphasis on the aquaculture industry and physical-chemical water treatment. The Senior Researcher understand design and evaluation of novel technologies for physical-chemical water treatment, online monitoring and the aquaculture industry and will drive new projects with the aquaculture industry as well as build a strong cooperation between DTU Environment and DTU Aqua.

Responsibilites and tasks
Are you interested in aquaculture, water treatment and online monitoring perhaps you are our new Senior Researcher. You will be responsible for developing research proposals and to obtain individual funding for research projects within areas of industrial water treatment and aquaculture water quality, in collaboration with other colleagues at DTU Environment and DTU Aqua.

Specifically we expect you to:

  • Perform research within development and optimisation of new water treatment methods and online monitoring technologies for aquaculture.
  • Expand the use of natural fluorescence monitoring as a tool to monitor water quality and control water treatment processes.
  • Engage in teaching in both departments including coordination and teaching part of the course 12109 Physical-Chemical Water Treatment Technologies at DTU Environment.
  • Coordinate and expand relevant activities between the two departments.
  • Develop a network with Danish industries in the aquaculture and water treatment sector.

For international candidates, DTU can provide Danish language courses enabling the candidates to teach in Danish within 2-3 years.

The Senior Researcher will work part of the time in DTU Aqua, The National Institute of Aquatic Resources. A central aim is to expand the research and development activities in the area there aquaculture engineering overlap with general water treatment engineering and bring tools to both departments.

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc.
  • Document didactic/pedagogic training
  • Have a general overview of environmental engineering technologies.
  • Have experience in applying for and executing scientific projects with variable funding sources such as research councils, EU and direct industry R&D.
  • Be able to network with academic and industry partners.
  • Have specific research experience with the use of natural fluoroscope in water as a monitoring and characterisation tool in technical systems.
  • Have experience in direct cooperation with water or aquaculture industries on R&D
  • Enjoy working with complex topics
  • Thrive on collaboration and teamwork
  • Focus on the process as well as the outcome

  • Documented innovation activities, including commercialization and collaboration with industry

  • Experience with the industry cooperation, aquaculture industry and water technology companies

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
