The R&D department Biosafety and Molecular Assays is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled scientist to join the Biosafety Team.
Biosafety and Molecular Assays is part of Analytical Solutions within Chr. Hansen R&D. The department is responsible for safety assessments of strains, strain documentation and for developing molecular methods to characterize our strains and cultures.

The assessments provide documentation and guidance for new product development and existing products. We complete documentation for authorities and customers, in support of legal, regulatory, commercial and compliance activities.
To support fermentation and product development we develop molecular geno- and phenotypic methods such as strain typing, antibiotic susceptibility testing, and genome mining.

Our department is expanding to secure our support for the growing R&D pipeline as well as the Chr. Hansen business units and customers, and you will join a highly motivated and collaborative team of scientists and technicians.

Your new role
You will be part of the Biosafety and Documentation team, currently consisting of five scientists, working cross-functionally within R&D, with the business units, and with Regulatory Affairs. Using your scientific background, and with training from experienced colleagues, you will provide support to the customers and help drive strain safety for the project and product portfolio.

Together with your colleagues, you will drive the development of the strain safety area as we strive to expand our analytical platform. You will work closely with a talented group of technicians and use experimental data as an integral part of the statements and reports that you generate, and which form the basis of our strain documentation. Handling large amounts of complex data will be part of the work, and bioinformatic skills are an advantage.

You are expected to build and maintain your knowledge of international guidelines within the safety area. Further, meetings with customers and authorities will be a future part of the job, as you get to know the Chr. Hansen value chain.

Your personal profile
The ideal candidate holds a MSc or PhD degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Food Science or a related scientific field.

We value candidates who have experience from one or more of the following areas:

  • Assessment of bacterial strains - especially antibiotic resistance and virulence, phenotypically and genotypically
  • Analyzing bacterial genome data
  • Scientific writing and review of scientific literature

Database maintenance (Access/SQL) or data visualization is considered an advantage as is experience with e.g. R or Python.

As a person, you should be outgoing and straightforward, seeking out partners across the organization, and have the analytical skills to be able to provide excellent scientific assessments.

English is the corporate language of Chr. Hansen, and you need to be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.

We offer
A challenging position in a global company, with excellent opportunities for personal development. You will be part of an expanding and hard-working team of competent colleagues and have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future activities within the Biosafety and Molecular Assays
