The Dean's office at the Science Faculty at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is looking for two academic Research Development Managers to complement our new external relations (research development) team. If you are agile, goal oriented, quality driven and self-driven person our new team is a perfect fit. You, as part of the team, will focus on aligning policy, research and proposal development. You will have the chance to develop and manage relations to significant private and public funders in Denmark and Europe to ensure timely and contextual alignment with the funder's strategies.

Job Purpose:
To proactively develop and support the delivery of the Faculty's research strategy through the provision of expert hands-on support to senior managers and researchers in securing high quality and high value external funding. This will require the development and maintenance of strategic relationships with key funding bodies and partner organizations nationally and internationally, co-production and facilitation of bids and the optimization of inter- and intra-Faculty and Departmental approaches to winning funds and responding to opportunities. 

You will be a part of an international team providing a core and high level support function to researchers at the Science Faculty, by assisting researchers with writing, preparation and submission of winning project proposals.

Your tasks will include:

  • Develop and manage excellent relationships with funders of research & innovation
  • Develop strategic insight of the major funding organizations through analysis
  • Reviewing research strengths in light of anticipated funding opportunities, highlighting priorities and opportunities
  • Obtaining and providing information and matchmaking colleagues to upcoming calls for proposals
  • Identify, promote and support best practice in successful grant winning
  • Writing and reviewing proposalsWorking closely with SDUs Research & Innovation Office (RIO)
  • Onboarding of new academic staff to national and international funding landscapes
  • Assisting with some of the office tasks in the external relations team.

Your Profile:
You have a relevant academic degree preferably in science or technology at PhD level and post-doc experience is an advantage. You must be fluent in written and spoken English and be an excellent communicator. You are enthusiastic, a team player, supportive and highly flexible to meet the variety of work. Previous experience and knowledge of EU research projects (e.g. H2020) and/or private foundation bids (e.g. DFF, Novo Nordisk) will be considered an advantage, as will consultancy experience. You work independently and can manage and prioritise your own time. Due to the specificity of the funding programmes, with strict application deadlines, and "last-minute projects" there are peak periods where you must be able and willing to work longer hours.

The external relations team will be established with 1 January 2020 as part of the Dean's office with around 30 colleagues and study-administration, communication and costing teams. The science faculty consists of four Departments: Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy. The faculty hosts 500 employees and 2000 students.

* Salary is paid according to current agreements between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, and will take place as special consultant.

1st round interviews by telecom are an option for candidates not based in Denmark.
