Bio Watch: Data driven motivation and optimisation for health and fitness performance

There is a number of exercise and lifestyle tracking devices, but none measure the real biological impact of the users nutritional and fitness behaviour. How can we create data driven motivation and optimisation for health and fitness performance?

Background
Biowatch offers data driven motivation and optimisation of health and fitness performance.

Biowatch has developed a comprehensive service that provides convenient subscription based access to lab-grade testing of blood samples (finger prick “dried blood spot”) which allows health interested individuals to continually monitor their biological health. We do this by tracking ‘biomarkers’ which are accurately measured levels of e.g. cholesterol, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hormones, allergens, inflammation markers etc. Biowatch currently has access to lab testing of approximately 400 biomarkers.

Our unique proposition is having factual and precise insights into our users’ health. We combine this unique insight with knowledge about users’ lifestyles, biometrics and health goals. By applying machine learning and building predictive models, we can provide individualised and precise predictions and suggestions and thereby motivating users to adopt healthier and performance-enhancing routines.

While there are many exercise and lifestyle tracking devices and applications, none of these measure the real biological impact of the users nutritional and fitness behaviour.

Below is a list of questions that is in our interest to get answered. However the question must function as inspiration for your problem statement / focus area, so you have the freedom to combine it with relevant courses, and write a good and interesting assignment following the required academia standards.

Our hypotheses
Our hypotheses, that a person knowing the factual condition of his body will proactively make better preventive health decisions and is more motivated to do so.

If Biowatch was to offer elite athletes (and fitness interested) a “compiled packaged” of 5 - 10 biomarkers for (legal) performance-enhancing purposes which biomarkers* would be relevant to offer in such package (in the following the “High Performance Packaged”).

The data results from the High Performance Packaged will be presented in an illustrative “in app dashboard” with historical traction and warning indicators.

(* e.g. cardiac biomarkers, electrolytes, testosterone, hormones, lactate level, essential amino acids, C-Reaktivt Protein, TSH, minerals, vitamins etc.?)

  • What would be the ideal routine and interval for self-monitoring based on the High Performance Packaged (before, after under exercise)?
  • What other data points* would be highly relevant to integrate / combine with the results from the High Performance Packaged for providing actionable insights to users for health and motivation improvement and ultimately forecasting of nutritional supplements and training routines. (* e.g. such as gender, age, height, weight, heart rate, blood pressure, activity level, food preference and nutrition intake)
  • Does the users continuous self-monitoring of the biomarkers in the High Performance Packaged have a proven positive motivating effect on the user’s exercise routines, performance and goal achievements?
  • Does the users continuous self-monitoring of the biomarkers in the High Performance Packaged have a proven performance enhancing effect on the user?
