Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (DTU Compute) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as associate professor in Applied Mathematics starting January 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The associate professor will be affiliated with the section for Scientific Computing which is one of eleven sections in the department. The department has approximately 325 employees, including around 90 faculty members.

The research field is Model Based Control, in particular model predictive control, as well as numerical solution of differential equations, model identification and mathematical modelling in connection with diabetes research.

Responsibilities and tasks
The new associate professor will contribute to the research carried out in the section for Scientific Computing at DTU Compute, in particular within theory and applications of model based control and model predictive control.

The successful candidate is expected to teach and take part in the development of teaching at the bachelor, master, and PhD levels at DTU. Specifically, applicants should be interested in teaching introductory courses in mathematics as well as advanced courses on theory and computational methods for differential equations and model predictive control. Also, the candidate is expected to attract external funding on a regular basis.

Since courses for the bachelor’s education are given in Danish, it is expected that the successful candidate within 3 years will be able to reach a level of proficiency in spoken and written Danish required for teaching purposes. For international candidates, DTU can provide Danish language courses enabling the right candidate to teach in Danish within 2-3 years.

Qualifications
Candidates for an associate professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.

The preferred candidate must have a documented experience within at least four of the following subjects:

  • model predictive control
  • numerical solution of differential equations
  • advanced numerical computations
  • mathematical diabetes modelling
  • state and parameter estimation

The candidate must enjoy pushing boundaries and like teamwork. Flexibility and self-motivation are desired skills at DTU. In addition, we expect you to be interested in cross-sectional collaboration and to take personal responsibility for your work.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The position is a full-time position.
