Assistant Professor in Daylight and Lighting

DTU Civil Engineering, Section for Building Energy invites applications for a full-time position as Assistant Professor within the field of daylight and lighting in buildings.

Responsibilities and tasks 
The candidate will be engaged in teaching and research on daylight and lighting in buildings. Candidates are expected to develop strong collaborative, innovative and multi-disciplinary research activities, while they should contribute to the strengthening and development of teaching in daylight and lighting. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to engage in fundraising and participate actively in externally funded projects.

The research focus is development of daylighting and lighting solutions for future energy efficient buildings and their occupants. With a thorough knowledge about the existing metrics, assessment methods, measurement methods and tools, the candidate should take on innovative and novel research path in order to advance the state of the art in the field daylighting with lighting integrated solutions. Human responsive approaches in daylighting and integrated lighting assessments for depicting façade strategies for new and renovated buildings are some of the focus areas. 

Teaching is anticipated to be provided at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Consistent advising and supervision of BEng, BSc and MSc students constitute also core responsibilities that the candidates should efficiently undertake. The distribution between the various duties may vary periodically and will be appropriately planned with the head of section. For an Assistant Professor, support and guidance to develop teaching skills and a teaching portfolio are provided by DTU in order to eventually qualify for an associate professorship. 

Please note that the expected teaching at undergraduate level is primarily to be in Danish and on postgraduate level (M.Sc. or Ph.D.). English is optional. International candidates are required to take courses in Danish and be able to teach in Danish within 2-3 years. Teaching activities can take place at both DTU Lyngby campus and DTU Ballerup campus. 

Qualifications
Candidates for an Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Further qualifications: 

• Expertise in design of daylighting and lighting systems 
• Expertise in detailed daylighting and lighting analysis with computational tools and measurements 
• Expertise in the influence of daylight and lighting on human comfort, performance and health and familiarity with human-centric approaches
• Expertise and experience in the design, conduction and statistical analysis of user assessment studies in laboratory and fields studies; 
• Strong computational skills, documented through coding and software development, in order to accommodate research activities and their dissemination
• Familiarity with building simulation tools for daylighting, electric lighting, thermal and energy performance
• Experience in development and management of scientific research projects
• Experience in successful application(s) of research grants
• Teaching and Supervision experience in Master and PhD level while it  is anticipated to complete DTU’s university teaching education within the first 2 years of employment
• Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks
• Communication skills in Danish and English, both written and spoken
