Industriens Uddannelser is looking for an industrial Ph.D. candidate for an approved project proposal that has been developed in collaboration with the IT University of Copenhagen. Please find information about the project and expectations for the candidate below. On the website of the Innovation Fund Denmark you can find more information regarding the programme.

The Internet today is not any longer used to publish data and information but provides a platform to integrate proprietary data, open data, and data harvested from social media platforms. The challenge is though how we - the civic society, public and private organisations - can make use of it for both, routine tasks and emerging needs. Can we co-design methods and systems that enable non-it professionals to engage, make sense of and make use of big data?

Under the title ’Big Data’, technologies and architectures are developed to integrate and analyse heterogeneous data from different sources are being developed. These technologies provide growing possibilities for data‐based decision making. The challenge for many organisations today, though, is to make use of this potential.

Service design and co-design integrate organisational, human‐centred and technical design. Services here are understood as social, material and technical configurations that together provide value for users and stakeholders. So far, design methods do not specifically target the design of Big Data services that require integrating and analysing data from heterogeneous sources and across different organisations.

Industriens Uddannelser focuses on the development of Adult Vocational Training and Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the industrial sector. We provide data‐intensive knowledge services to our owners and stakeholders. Industriens Uddannelser can be regarded as a knowledge broker organisation or ‘infomediary’ supporting its stakeholders.

The applicant should furthermore have a sound understanding qualitative research methods. We expect the candidate to hold a M.
