The position as associate professor will be a part of the section of Communication Technology (Network technology and service platforms research group) within the Department of Photonic Engineering. The communication technology section is responsible for research, education and innovation in a wide range of topics within telecommunication technologies at the technical university of Denmark (DTU) and counts about 85 researchers (including PhD students).
 
Responsibilities and tasks
The associate professor in application aware network access will be responsible for research and research based teaching within the area of wired and wireless network technology (primarily above the physical layer) that support application with specific demands such as high availability, low latency, energy efficiency, high security, high capacity. The research and teaching will be multidisciplinary ranging classical tele-traffic engineering, computer based modelling (using OPNET and similar tools) and experimental platforms (for example using FPGA, Raspberry Pi or Arduino boards) in verification of protocol performance for end-to-end systems in relation to application aware network access.
 
The research will be strongly associated to other activities (within the department, the university and collaboration partners) in the area of eHealth, M2M and IoT, TSN, Vehicle networks, smart city etc.

Collaboration with other departments within DTU will be a part of the responsibility of the position and a task that is expected to be intensified in the coming year for example as part of the CACHET initiative on eHealth and the “Smart City Coordination Group”.  

The holder of the position will be responsible for innovation support to companies within the area, especially SMEs.
 
Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship
  • document didactic/pedagogic training  

In addition, candidates are expected to have

  • experience in international research collaboration
  • experimental and application oriented research and teaching experience
  • cross disciplinary research and teaching experience

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to 

  • experience in teaching and education
  • scientific production and research potential at an international level
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
