Senior Research Scientist in polymer and Dielectric Elastomer Characterization

The Danish Polymer Centre (DPC) is a research centre at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. With 5 faculty (1 emeritus), 20 PhD students and Postdocs and a center coordinator, the centre performs research and research based teaching in polymer science and engineering. The centre is currently seeking a research scientist in dielectric elastomers with experience in daily-day- basis running a polymer analysis laboratory.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will be responsible for running the polymer analysis equipment within DPC, i.e. rheology, dielectric spectroscopy, electrical breakdown characterization, TGA/DSC, NMR, amongst some of the analyses. This part of the employment is normalized to about 20 hours per week. Furthermore the candidate will work on research projects related to dielectric elastomers, especially with focus on thin film preparation and characterization. This part of the position is normalized to 17 hours per week.

Collaboration with CEN is to be expected.

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc.

Further qualifications: 

  • Experience with running advanced analytical equipment such as TGA/DSC, FTIR, rheology, dielectric spectroscopy, electrical breakdown determinations, and SEM amongst many techniques used commonly in the centre.
  • Experience with analysis of the above mentioned techniques.
  • Experience with thin film production of elastomers
  • Experience with formulations of elastomers
  • Experience with collaborations with companies

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: 

  • scientific production and research potential at international level
  • innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas
  • the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation

For the specific position consideration will also be given to:

  • experience with running a characterization laboratory individually

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
