Project Manager for electrical systems for offshore wind farms

Would you like to develop and execute electrical system projects for offshore wind farms?

Join us and become Project Manager in the Electrical Project Management team in Wind Power Engineering, which is responsible for the development and construction of electrical systems for offshore wind projects. As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of the electrical systems that connect an offshore wind farm to the transmission grid.

Electrical Project Management consists of 26 project managers located in London, Hamburg and Copenhagen, and we provide leadership and manage the teams responsible for electrical engineering, procurement and construction of electrical works related to offshore wind farms.

You will be working in a dedicated project team, delivering standardised and optimised products to the agreed time and quality and at the lowest cost, while ensuring the highest level of safety throughout the development, construction and operation phases. You will refer to a programme director, cooperate with other project managers and support functions on programme level. Moreover, you will cooperate with a vast variety of other stakeholders and contributors across different line functions in a matrix organisation.

The department is part of Wind Power, which has 1800 employees and is one of four business units in DONG Energy. Wind Power is the world’s largest developer and operator of offshore wind power, and we use our unique knowledge in all phases of our wind turbine projects. During the last 20 years, we have developed and constructed the largest portfolio of offshore wind farms in Northern Europe.

You may choose freely to be based either at one of our Danish offices in Gentofte in the Greater Copenhagen area or in Skærbæk near Fredericia or alternatively at our London office in the United Kingdom or our Hamburg office in Germany on local terms and conditions. However, you should expect some travelling in relation to your work.

Your key duties will be to

  • perform project management within system design, submarine and land cable supply and installation, transformers and HV/MV components, protection and control as well as all related engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning activities
  • organise and lead the electrical project team and plan project activities, such as design, procurement, construction, commissioning and QA
  • prepare and deliver project gate and project management documentation, such as project scope, costs, risks and interfaces
  • manage external stakeholders, such as transmission owners and local authorities
  • head contract management and contractor’s work in the execution phase.

Furthermore, you will contribute to strategic and operational development of the Electrical Project Management function.

Your qualifications and core competences include that you

  • hold a master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • are an experienced project manager - and as we use PMI/PMBOK as project management framework, a PMP certification or similar training and certification is preferred
  • have extensive relevant work experience within large construction projects
  • have excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills, as well as good commercial understanding
  • are able to prioritise and execute your tasks in order to meet deadlines.

Furthermore, you are prepared to work intensely during busy periods. You have a profound interest in green energy and working in a rapidly developing industry. Moreover, you have good interpersonal skills, and thrive on working in a dynamic environment with many stakeholders and contacts across the organisation.

As we operate in an international environment, it is essential that you speak and write English fluently.
