The Fire Safety Group at DTU (http://www.brand.dtu.dk/Brandgruppen), which is part of the Section for Building Design in the Department of Civil Engineering, covers research areas of fundamental importance for building fire safety. These include material flammability, structural fire safety and evacuation.

The group is well recognized in these areas and the research is carried out in close collaboration with partners from national and international academic institutions, as well as with industry.

In order to develop our research and teaching activities we seek a highly qualified person to join the faculty at the assistant or associate professor level. A preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in Building Fire Safety and performance-based design, including fire dynamics.

Responsibilities and tasks 
The assistant or associate professor will have his/her primary responsibilities in research and in research-based teaching. The successful applicant is expected to propose a specific research area that must relate to existing research activities of the Fire Safety Group but constitute a clear extension of these. The teaching will include regular courses at the MSc level in fire dynamics, building fire safety, fire chemistry, fire risk management and fire modelling, as well as supervision of thesis projects. The position also holds responsibility for extending cooperation with external partners by actively pursuing national and international opportunities for joint projects and their funding.

The applicant is expected to be an integral part of the Master in Fire Safety (Master i Brandsikkerhed) education, preferably in the form of being the Head of Studies for the program in addition to teaching obligations.

In case of an associate professor position, there will be responsibility also for PhD and Postdoc supervision, for research project management, and for academic departmental work.

An assistant professor will have to complete DTU’s education in university teaching (UDTU) and is expected to co-supervise PhD students.

Qualifications
Candidates for an

  • Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training. 

Applicants should possess and document strong qualifications in research, as demonstrated through publications and citations in international scientific journals, and through successful collaborations and projects.

Applicants for an associate professor position must document their interest, qualifications, and significant experience in research-based university teaching, while applicants for an assistant professor position must document their interest, qualifications, and other relevant experience.

All applicants must document a vision for their contribution to future research and teaching in fire safety engineering. Applicants must be ready to actively and constructively engage in collaborations with colleagues in our group, with other DTU groups and departments, and with external partners.

Applicants do not need to master the Danish language, but they must be ready to pursue the learning of it in order to teach in Danish within a foreseeable future.
