DTU Compute represents a unique combination of mathematics and computer science, including competencies in information processing in the broadest sense, and in the development of modern computer based systems. 

Consequently, DTU Compute is in an ideal position to utilize the synergies arising at the crossroads between IT and mathematics, and we are therefore well positioned to address the challenges of the digital society.
 
The scientific areas of DTU Compute cover theory, technology and engineering applications, ranging from fundamental research to innovative products and public sector consultancy. We drive technology and abstract engineering challenges as mathematical models enabling analysis, design, synthesis and simulations. We communicate mathematical and computational results to society at large and gain valuable insights from which new research questions emerge.
 
DTU Computing Center (DCC) seeks an open-minded, competent and experienced Linux / BSD system administrator with developer experience, for operations and development of large scale Linux / BSD based systems for research and teaching. 
 
The job
DCC entails DTU’s High Performance Computing Competence Center and one of DTU’s four HPC operations centers. Furthermore, we operate and support a range Linux / BSD based services for research and teaching at DTU - i.e. e-mail, storage, and web servers for all DTU students, SVN/Git services, software download platform etc. Therefore, it is important that you have broad and solid experience with implementing, operating and developing Linux / BSD based services in large scale infrastructures. 
 
DCC currently holds nine members of staff – Systems Architect, Tech Lead, three Linux / BSD / HPC sysadmins, two HPC specialists, a contract coordinator, and a manager. We have interfaces to similar IT operations units in- and outside of DTU, our student staffed support team, and of course our users (researchers/teachers, and students). 
 
Primary areas of responsibility

  • Design, operations, and development of internal management, logging, and monitoring systems (i.e. Puppet, Ganglia, Munin, Nagios)
  • Development (scripts in bash/Perl/Python)
  • End user support
  • Support and administration of general large scale Linux / BSD systems
    o    storage and backup systems
    o    e-mail, web platforms, databases, ticket system etc.
  • Administration of internal networks and firewalls
  • Documentation

 
Our expectations on you

  • Solid and documented experience with operations and development of large scale Linux / BSD (UNIX) infrastructures combined with a good understanding systems architecture
  • Programming experience (Perl, Python, and Shell)
  • Experience with design, implementation, and operations of different storage solutions (NAS/SAN, ZFS, NFS, SAMBA)
  • Expert on standard Linux / BSD based services such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, IPtables etc.
  • Experience with virtualisation solutions (i.e. Ganeti and/or KVM will be an advantage)
  • Strong analytical skills for problem solving
  • IT security mind set
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Experience in using HPC systems will be an advantage
  • It is a preference if you have M.Sc. degree within IT, Physics, or Mathematics - this is however not a prerequisite for the position
