Department of Engineering at Aarhus University, Chemical and Biological Engineering Section, seeks an Associate Professor in chemical engineering. The applicant must promote interdisciplinary research through collaboration with biologists, chemists and other engineering disciplines as well as with industry.

The successful candidate is required to have a strong background in chemical or biological engineering, experience with applied research, and preferably R&D experience from the industry.

Expertise in chemical valorization of biomass, byproducts and waste from agriculture and industry is preferred. The ideal candidate has experience with chemical engineering of e.g. organic polymers and biopolymers (cellulose and lignocellulose) in the bio refinery value chain. The candidate must demonstrate ability to conduct basic and applied interdisciplinary research, and experience with technology transfer from university to industry is requested. A demonstrated competence for teaching chemical engineering, supervision of students and post docs, project management and the ability to attract independent funding are qualifications that will be emphasized in the evaluation of the candidate.

The candidate is required to teach relevant courses in the Engineering educational program, and the candidate is encouraged to establish new, specialized courses within his or her field at the BSc and/or MSc level.

The Engineering Department, www.eng.au.dk, within the faculty of science and technology (ST) Denmark promotes and develops Engineering research and education at Aarhus University. The Department undertakes engineering research and education within classical engineering disciplines (Mechanical, IT, civil and architectural, Chemical and biotechnology) in close collaboration with other departments at ST and the School of Engineering at ST. Department of Engineering offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment with many national and international collaborators in science and industry.

AU is investing in biorefining and has or is in the process of establishing a unique and comprehensive demo-scale platform for bioressource technologies including various pretreatment technologies, protein separation, hydrothermal conversion, biogas conversion, and biogas upgrading. The close collaboration with both basic science and agricultural research departments at AU together with our extensive national and international collaboration further strengthens this effort.  AU is a key node in a large national biorefining programme, www.Biovalue.dk.

Formalities and salary range 
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
