The Center for Energy Informatics, University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for one or more PhD fellowships. The starting dates of the positions are September 1st, 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Center for Energy Informatics brings together software engineers, computer scientists, applied physicists, electrical engineers and social scientists in the application of information and communication technology to facilitate the transition towards a sustainable energy system by intelligent integration and optimization of the energy flexibility found in buildings and industrial processes with the fluctuating energy supply from renewable sources, like wind and solar.

The PhD positions are part of the international research project COORDICY: ICT-driven Coordination for Reaching 2020 Energy Efficiency Goals in Public and Commercial Buildings. The COORDICY project description is available at www.sdu.dk/COORDICY .

One of the PhD positions is an industrial PhD fellowship in collaboration with the COORDICY project partner INSERO Software. INSERO Software is a Danish software company specializing in energy management software.

We seek energetic and dynamic candidates that can join the project team in developing the next generation of software for advancing the intelligence of smart buildings. The PhD research will investigate the use of soft computing and artificial intelligence techniques to model and coordinate relevant factors such as weather forecast, thermal properties, construction typologies, occupant behavior, building systems, and their complex interactions to ensure optimal building operation. 

The preferred candidate has:

  • a master degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline
  • knowledge of problem solving using artificial intelligence methods
  • programming experience in Java
  • good analytical and practical skills

The Center for Energy Informatics is part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, one of four Departments of the Faculty of Engineering at University of Southern Denmark.

Application, salary and conditions of employment etc.
A PhD Fellowship is a 3-year position. Employment stops automatically by the end of the period. The PhD Fellow is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, an interview may be applied.
