Applications are invited for a permanent position as senior researcher at the Department of Physics at DTU. The applicant will lead the construction of the DanMAX beamline at the MAX IV synchrotron jointly with a colleague from Aarhus University. The beamline will comprise two instruments dedicated to full field imaging and powder diffraction and is a collaborative effort between DTU, Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen and MAX IV.  DTU is primarily responsible for the imaging station and for the related software development.

The applicant will be part of the imaging center at DTU.  Other activities include two ERC programs on x-ray microscopy, and 3D reconstruction, respectively; strategic research within sustainable energy and ferro-electrics, an industry portal, neutron activities directed towards ESS, and innovation programs, e.g. related to security scanners.

Responsibilities and tasks:
The applicant will be responsible for the design and construction of the imaging branch of the beamline, as well as act as the overall project manager of the beamline.  In addition he/she is expected to develop a science program of his/her own, exploiting x-ray imaging.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), preferably in a physics- or materials science- related discipline as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc.

Further qualifications:

  • Strong background in x-ray science and instrumentation
  • Documented management skills
  • Self-motivation in scientific research
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken 

A previous position at a synchrotron or neutron source and/or a background in imaging is seen as a plus.

Salary and appointment terms
T
he appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

Initially the workplace will be split between DTU Lyngby Campus and the MAX-IV site in Lund . After the first two years the work will predominantly take place in Lund. The candidate will have a dual affiliation: to DTU and MAX IV. The position is not time limited but a transition to become head of beamline in the operation phase is subject to an interview and evaluation by the DanMAX steering committee.
