Wind turbines in large offshore wind farms are interconnected by array cables that gather the power from the wind turbines and collect it at the offshore substation.
During the installation of the array cables, decisions are made on short term due to the variability on the weather conditions. Some of the variables to analyse are:
- Array cable layout
- Wind turbine location
- Number, length and type of cables
- Water depth
- Current speed and direction
- Wave height - Tide tables
- Wind direction
- Number and type of installation vessels
- Speed of cable installation vessel
- Vessel constraints and operation
- Installation method
Detailed project description
The main goal of the project is to develop an on-line tool to support the daily decision making of the cable installation manager.
The project is expected to:
- review constraints and available information
- review optimisation methods
- develop an on-line tool for array cable installation.
