For our department Fermentation Process in Hørsholm we are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic scientist to work within the field of fermentation development of Human Health Probiotic Cultures. 

Chr. Hansen is a global supplier of bioscience based ingredients to the food, health and animal feed industries, with leading positions in the markets in which we operate. We produce cultures and dairy enzymes, probiotics and natural colors. 

Our Fermentation Process department is organized within Innovation in the Cultures and Enzymes Division; Right in the middle of the highway with development of fermentation processes in small to medium scale and increase of culture-stability as our main goal. 
The ultimate aim of our work is implementation of the processes we develop in Chr. Hansen’s human health culture plant in Roskilde. 

Your tasks

  • You will develop fermentation processes for bacterial cultures with long-term shelf life stability in non-dairy applications
  • You will be responsible for the development of experimental methods, techniques and processes to define and optimize microbial fermentation systems for probiotic bacterial culture production by applying scientific and/or engineering principles and practices
  • You will take part in the implementation of designed processes in our culture plant in Roskilde and support our production when needed
  • You will optimize and up-scale the fermentation processes using statistical tools such as Design of Experiment and Multivariate Data Analysis
  • You will apply innovative approaches and technologies to achieve development and application goals and to challenge the status quo
  • You will collaborate across our organization
  • You will be executing studies at both laboratory scale and Pilot Plant scale on the influence of fermentation and downstream processes on product yield storage stability

Your personal profile

  • You hold Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocessing, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related scientific field
  • It is a great advantage if you are a woman/man of steel - meaning that you have a genuine interest in process upscaling (200 ml up to 700 l) and process equipment
  • You preferably have experience in microbial fermentation of probiotic bacteria
  • You have knowhow of bioprocessing; hereunder aseptic techniques, separation techniques, downstream processes and process scale-up
  • You have knowledge of statistical tools for Design of Experiment & Multivariate data analysis
  • You are outgoing and communicative
  • You are fluent in English (orally and in writing)
  • You are a true team-player with well-developed inter-personal skills
  • You have the ability to work independently and executing projects with deliverables aligned with the strategic goals of Chr. Hansen
