DTU Nutech, The Radiation Physics Division seeks candidates for an R&D engineer position to strengthen our instrument development activities.

The Radiation Physics Division carries out research, innovation and research-based consultancy in the fields of luminescence physics, dosimetry and neutronics, with applications within e.g. geological and archaeological dating, radiation therapy, radiation sterilization, radiation protection and nuclear emergency preparedness.

The division presently consists of approximately 35 people including researchers, engineers, technicians and PhD students.

Over the last 30 years we have developed specialized instrumentation to support luminescence and dosimetry research activities at DTU and all over the world; we hold a leading position within instrumentation for retrospective luminescence dosimetry.

We seek to strengthen our instrument development capacity by employing an additional R&D engineer.

Job description
We are constantly developing and improving the Risø TL/OSL reader (www.osl.risoe.dk) and other new instruments for luminescence and radiation measurement. This development is driven by the needs of both internal and external researchers in the field. Our instruments are based on a variety of technologies: electronics, signal processing, sensor technology, optics design, radiation technology, embedded software, FPGA/CPLD programming, Windows programming, and mechanical design.

The successful candidate will participate in the development of both new instrumentation and modifications to our existing luminescence and radiation measurement instruments. The main responsibility will be software development in either PC and embedded programming or both, but it may also include contributions to the electronics and mechanics design.

The R&D engineer will participate in the planning, prioritisation and implementation of instrument development projects in close co-operation with research staff. The engineer will also be involved in supporting existing instruments at DTU Nutech and elsewhere.

Qualifications
The R&D engineer must have an engineering degree in electronics, computer science or similar. The applicant must have experience in development of embedded software and PC software. A strong basic physics background and a good understanding of electronics hardware design are highly desirable. Experience with instrument development projects will also be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be an active team participant and will openly share ideas with colleagues. The candidate will be able to communicate well, in both spoken and written English and preferably also in Danish. He/she will be systematic and analytic in their work and focused on finding and implementing solutions.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The place of work is DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde, Denmark.

Further information
Further information may be obtained from Head of Division Bent Lauritzen, +45 4677 4906, or Senior R&D engineer Torben Lapp, +45 2132 6231.
