Department of Engineering (ENG), Aarhus University invites applications for positions as tenured tracked assistant professors or associated professors in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).  

One position is open in electrical engineering and one position in computer engineering.  The University seeks exceptional innovative and visionary engineering researchers capable of strengthening and extending the ECE section at Aarhus University.

The positions are available from August 2015 or as soon as possible hereafter. Responsibilities include developing an innovative strategic research agenda together with colleagues and external partners, nurturing and leading an excellent research activity, contribution to an inspiring and industrially relevant education at several levels (undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D.) and expanding industrial collaboration.

The intention with the open positions is to strengthen the research, teaching and industrial collaboration activities of the ECE section within one or more of the following key disciplines:

Electrical Engineering
a)    Sensor HW designs, instrumentation, and mixed signal design at both component and system level. Also, HW architectural knowledge at both circuit level (micro-electronics) and system level (Board/ASIC/FPGA) is considered important. 

Computer Engineering
a)    Computing systems with emphasis on embedded SW and Cyber Physical Systems including modeling of such heterogeneous systems. Competences in HW-SW co-design and/or computer networks and communication technology are also advantageous.
b)    Software engineering with focus on SW architectures, formal methods and development of tools for modeling and analysis for in particular critical IT-based systems.

For each of these positions it is crucial that candidates can bring a deep understanding of real-world systems and applications in fields like energy, healthcare, transportation, industrial control etc.

Aarhus University has a broad range of strong competences in electrical and computer engineering in general and ENG has initiated an ambitious strategy within the disciplines at hand. The positions will be anchored in the ECE section at the department, and the candidates are expected to work closely with the other researchers/groups within the section and with external stakeholders. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team is essential. 

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in electrical/computer engineering or alternatively scientific expertise of a corresponding nature matching one or several of the disciplines mentioned. The candidates must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Industrial relevant R&D experience is an additional plus. Further expectations for the various levels of appointment are:

Assistant Professor: Demonstrate potential for outstanding research and teaching. Some postdoctoral training is preferred. 

Associate Professor: Candidates should have an outstanding record of research accomplishment, scholarly achievement, an established record of external funding (is preferred), and concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field. 

In both cases the candidates are expected to be able to contribute to strengthening the current research activities as well as drive the continued build-up of an internationally competitive research activity. Commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels including existing courses and development of new courses is expected.

The engineering field in Aarhus is changing with a rapid growth in student intake major research initiatives as well as through the establishment of a number of new facilities in the city center. We have ambitious plans to increase activities in research, education as well as public and industrial cooperation. The electrical and computer engineering field at Aarhus University is well established with extensive research activities, approximately 1000 students and a long tradition of industrial collaboration.

Formalities and salary range 
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.  Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.  Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
