You create a lab that fosters exquisite skills and results

Are you a highly qualified and experienced Chemist, Engineer or Laboratory Technician? And do you have the ambition and expertise to build up and spearhead a major laboratory function with international dimensions? If so, please do not hesitate to send us your application for this unique possibility as Laboratory Manager.

About the laboratory
Centre for Oil and Gas - DTU is established by the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC) and DTU. The centre has received a starting grant of DKK 1 billion for a 10-year period and relies on close interaction between Academia and industry. As part of the National Strategy on Oil and Gas, the research centre is an ambitious, targeted effort to enable increased recovery of oil and gas from the Danish North Sea. The goal will be achieved by cooperation with the industry and other research institutions to further progress knowledge and solutions with application potential, and by contributing to research-based teaching programs.

The DHRTC laboratories will have an important supporting role for research and teaching programmes at DHRTC. We carry out a wide range of chemical, materials and geological analyses and will possibly cover other areas in the future. In addition we provide technical know-how and equipment to support DHRTC’s multifarious fieldwork.

You set the strategic and operational standards for an international research centre
The laboratory is a corporate centre function with its own economic framework, and you will design and establish the facilities from scratch. Together with the DHRTC management team you will implement and nourish a culture and an organisation that strives towards excellence.

To do so, you:

  • have a key role in major investments
  • develop and maintain the laboratory infrastructure
  • design and develop the organisational and professional laboratory function
  • manage the daily laboratory operation
  • supervise the laboratory technicians
  • enter into agreements with customers of the laboratory facilities on deliverables, service, and price
  • procure, implement and maintain new equipment and consumables
  • head the ongoing maintenance and refurbishment of general application

You will also be responsible for coordinating safety of the laboratory. This includes defining safety instructions - and introducing the staff, students and laboratory users to these guidelines. Moreover you make sure that procedures are developed concerning quality assurance, filing of experimental data, disposal of chemical waste etc. You will report directly to the Centre Director.

Experienced technician with managerial skills
You have a relevant background as Laboratory Technician, Chemist or Engineer topped with sound managerial experience. This means that you have the stamina and the skills to supervise, lead and motivate a group of specialists. You take responsibility and are committed to the operational and managerial challenges, by using your pragmatic and solution-oriented approach to deliver state-of-the-art solutions and have a proven ability for estimating costs and keeping budgets.

You are also fluent in Danish in speech and writing, and able to communicate professionally in English. Moreover, you have an open-minded and positive mindset and good interpersonal skills coupled with empowerment and energy to drive the laboratories through any obstacle and challenge.

As such, you must be able to navigate smoothly between technical excellence and the need to support staff, students and guests.

What we offer in return
We offer a challenging and varied job in a dynamic and international research center under construction. You will have the opportunities to influence and adapt laboratory function so that it is optimal for DHRTC task and strategy. In the area of technical and natural sciences, DTU is one of the leading research and education institutions in Europe.

The DTU Leadership Role is based on four cornerstones: academic management, resource management, Performance-enhancing HR management and strategic management. Moreover, self-management and DTU’s values constitute the central parameters for these four disciplines.
