Researcher in Electric Vehicle Smart Grid Integration

The Department of Electrical Engineering (Department) invites applicants for a Researcher position at our Centre for Electric Power and Energy, CEE.

The selected candidate will be centrally positioned in developing the research field of electric vehicle (EV) smart grid (SG) integration with the objective of:

  • Supporting cross-disciplinary SG research between electrical engineering and computer science.
  • Providing sound information on, - and mediating widespread acceptance and penetration of EVs
  • Strengthening participation and collaboration of the Danish Technical University (DTU) in national and international research projects and organizations.

The position will be associated with Danish and European EV projects such as Nikola - a Danish funded project (www.nikola.droppages.com) and COTEVOS - a European FP7 funded project (www.cotevos.eu).

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will be responsible for managing the coordination and participation of an EV-group towards several national and international research projects and organizations, independently guiding the EV-groups work and delivering high-quality academic contributions in peer-reviewed publications and patents.

The candidate is expected to contribute actively in fund raising for new smart grid research projects and to promote DTU’s activities globally internally. Contributions to the Department’s teaching and education activities, including supervision of Ph.D., master and bachelor students are expected.

Qualifications
The position requires some years of postdoc experience and a strong research record in electric vehicle grid integration. The candidate must document several of the following requirements:

  • A Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent
  • Research experience at postdoc level in the field of EV integration and smart grid
  • A well developed national and international network within the EV field
  • Experience within the cross field between academia, industry as well as international projects
  • Experience in project fund raising and managing research projects
  • Experience with student supervision at master and PhD level

The successful candidate may optionally have additional experience within:

  • Electric vehicle use cases related to either charging optimisation, user acceptance, DSO or system-wide services and market integration
  • Communication technology for electric vehicle integration including standards and interoperability for electric vehicles, charging spots and backend systems
  • Statistical data analysis of electric vehicle driving and charging patterns

Preference will be given to applicants with experience from electric vehicle projects and from working on key aspects of electric vehicle grid integration such as market and distribution system integration, charging and driving data analysis and informatics supporting EV modelling, communication and (dis)-charging optimization.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • scientific production and research potential at international level
  • innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas
  • the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities
  • experience in teaching and education [1]
  • an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
  • the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The contract is for a 4 year period. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The main work address will be at Lyngby Campus, however, occasionally with duties also at Risø Campus.
